Just curious whether you think or know that she has given up on winning her state. Why didn't Senator Heidi Heitkamp vote "yes" on Kavanaugh? For those of you who are going to say she made some moral decision to do the right thing, I'll remind you that we're talking about a politician in an election year who is currently behind in the polls with the Democrat Party rabid to win the Senate.

Quote:
"A new Fox News poll gives Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer a 53% to 41% lead over Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in the North Dakota Senate race. This poll is in-line with another recent poll from the race that also found Cramer with a double-digit advantage. Democrats need a net gain of 2 seats to take back the Senate in November. While Democrats hold small leads in the currently Republican-held seats in Arizona and Nevada, a loss in North Dakota would leave them with a net gain of only 1 seat. Democrats could try to make up for the loss in North Dakota by winning in Tennessee or Texas, two red states that are much more accustomed to voting Republican. The Democratic candidates trail in both of those races."

This is the other poll to which the CNN story above refers:

When the Democrats realized on Friday night, that Kavanaugh was going to be confirmed, why didn't they greenlight her to vote "yes" with her Senate seat in jeopardy of going to the Republicans next month? Or did they greenlight her to vote "yes" but she has just resigned herself to losing? Or is there something I don't know about her? Or are the Democrats planning something sketchy with the polls in ND so her vote on Kavanaugh doesn't matter, the goose is already cooked? Early voting in North Dakota begins Oct 29 (3 weeks from now).

I couldn't have said it better, roadrat. I've been following the polling. She has looked in trouble for a bit. I'm guessing her internal polling is worse. Her vote is sort of like the captain of a sinking ship, turning and walking back to the pilot house.

Liberals tend to shoot themselves in the foot more often than not.

Basically what I planned to write. It was a zero sum game for her, might as well take the route that makes you look nobel. Joe Manchin has a chance now, which is why he did it - he really did have no choice. I was more surprised by Claire McCaskill of Missouri or Joe Donnelly of Indiana not voting yes. Their no’s will hurt them, I guess they decided it wouldn’t be too much. In both cases it would have been a bigger issue if Kavanaugh ended up not getting confirmed.

Who has the greatest chance of paying a price for their vote is Murkowski, and it was her reasoning that will end up hurting her more than the vote itself.

According to her brother ~ win or lose, she has to like the person she sees in the mirror.

Joe Manchin was never in any danger of losing.

Polls strongly favor Joe Manchin ( R) West Virginia. He was the sole Democrat to vote for Kavenaugh.
