That's one issue about convincing people. No one does anything until the they're standing at the edge. That's human nature. Older people can care less because it's not gonna happen to them.
And understandably, many people will find it extremely hard to change because their lives revolve around it. People who work in the oil industry, people who have to commute in the car for long trips because their city was not planned around transit or walkability.
There is no solution to global warming. We don’t yet have an economical replacement for coal, oil, and natural gas. Solar and wind will not be economical until we have an economical grid-scale electricity storage technology.
We could use more nuclear fission in place of coal/natural gas for electricity, but nuclear power has its own risks.
There’s no point in complaining about a problem that has no solution. If global warming means human extinction, then so be it. A species that doesn’t care about anything but money and power doesn’t deserve to exist anyway.
When Al Gore, and Leo DeCaprio give up their private jets, caravans of SUVs, and multiple mansions in the name of Man Made Climate Change, I may take notice.

You shouldn't look up to such people to justify your behaviour -whether you believe there is an unfolding climate disaster, or not, don't be afraid to be the captain of your own ship.
It's kind of like the patient who knows he has stage 4 cancer and there's no time or cure in sight. Take it easy, sit back and enjoy what's left of life. The end is coming, not right away, but off in the distance. People, worlds and all things appear and disappear.

It is those people who make and/or support the claims, yet their lifestyle demonstrate something totally different. If they are not taking their own claims seriously, why should I? Gives me the impression they are full of it.
Decaprio Just used a yacht to watch the world cup, that thing used more fuel during his time than I will in several months, yet I am the one that needs to cut back? I already cut as much if anything, due to economics, yet every climate helping proposal that always comes is nothing more than a cost increase to people like me.
What can they do?...cars and trucks are essentials for the world as we know to keep on going, factories build things and ships, trucks and trains take them to market...if climate change is THAT much a threat, the entire world is going to have to radically change everything from the ground up and start over.
If big semi trucks constantly driving, spewing toxic fumes is a problem, OK, we go to those manufacturers and say you can only produce THIS many trucks now....or put tough limits on how many big trucks can be licensed to operate at a time...if its passenger cars and trucks, well, then do the same thing, put strict limits on the number of vehicles that can be built and sold, and used at a time (this would be simple to enforce, it would be unpopular, but if the planet is truly in danger, its probably worth doing)...this kind of mentality would devastate the financial economy of the entire planet.
There are alternatives to fuel/oil, but if they cannot be 'run thru a meter', that alone would devastate the economy too...heck, its one reason they created the Invention Secrecy Act in 1951, to protect against things that have potential to disrupt the economy on a large scale.
Simply boycotting goods made in China accomplishes nothing...China is still part of this world, just like we are.
Commercial airlines are a big one; fully 9% of all man-made carbon emissions are from that industry. We are decades away from developing electric passenger aircraft.

Effective alternatives DO EXIST, its just they are not economically practical, if it cannot be 'run thru a meter' there can be no industry to sustain itself, (no money to be made thru its use.)
Do some online reading about the Invention Secrecy Act of 1951, relating to energy and power. One of the factors that go into determining whether or not to suppress a technology/invention, is its potential to negatively effect the economy or any existing related industries.
Hypothetical Example....If someone invented a car engine that could operate off regular tap water...there would be no way to 'meter' usage, it would basically be free to anyone and everyone...No one would need to purchase fuel anymore, it would be in the best interest of the financial security of the nation to suppress such an invention.
