As we know, President Trump is steadfast against alcohol, setting a superb example for the kids.
Its all very well for adults to chose wine for themselves, but LeBron pushing his children into it?
Anyone could be an alcoholic, and if everyone raised their kids with alcohol in their system then everyone with alcoholic tendencies would indeed become an alcoholic.
And LeBron knows its wrong, even telling people not to blame his wife....

I wouldn't even point it out normally, because we know it happens a lot....but LeBron doesn't seem to realize that while he may not be an American leader he's at the very least a Black leader (even if 2nd or 3rd tier and confined to sports, not on the level of Sheriff David Clarke) and should set a more wholesome example.

Ill disagree to a point. My parents gave us a little red wine as kids when we had italian food. It took away the novelty.

Would I give an 11 year old, or my own children wine? Probably not.

With that said, it is incorrect to assume that a child being served wine is going to be raised to be an alcoholic. The reverse is actually true.

In countries such as France and Italy, where children are frequently served wine with meals by their parents from grade school onwards, it has been found that they are less likely to suffer from alcoholism or binge drinking later in life than those who were entirely kept away from it. Of course, cultural differences are also a factor.

So while I still wouldn't do what LeBron and his wife are doing, throughout other parts of the world and in other cultures it would be considered acceptable. So I wouldn't vilify them for it.

LOL, funny.
See, I never said wine caused alcoholism....
I specifically said "Anyone could be an alcoholic, and if everyone raised their kids with alcohol in their system then everyone with alcoholic tendencies would indeed become an alcoholic".

Whether you drink wine or not, there are certain people prone to addiction.
And if you feed your children wine, and they happen to have an addictive personality, then you'll be perpetuating alcoholism.

If every parent in the world fed their children wine, then those predisposed to alcoholism would become alcoholics.
And I'm not talking about giving your child a sip once a month, I'm talking about regularly.
You are opening the door, unnecessarily.
These kids may have gone on to be adults with no interest in wine.

Kids in France ARE regularly exposed to wine as part of their culture.
This may be 'wrong' in your eyes because you are American. You would see it completely differently if you had been born in France where it is accepted and the norm.
France is not a nation of alcoholics.

France is not a nation of alcoholics.
Just because a country calls something normal, it doesn't make it healthy.
France well may have a higher percentage of known alcoholics than the United States.
We just don't know.

European kids are raised on wine all the time becuae the water is so bad.

Are ALL Europeans alcoholics?

It never cease to amaze me how some can make the most extreme positions right off the bat with NOTHING to back them up!

It clearly depends on quantity of alcohol.

If you are giving a child copious amolunts of alcohol it would be a child protection issue.

However in countries such as France they generally give children a glass with a family mean where they sit together and this can even be watered down.

You used to be able to buy alcohol in France aed 16, however the age was raised to 18 in 2009.

In England & Wales a person aged 16 may consume wine, beer or cider on licensed premises when ordered with a meal, and accompanied by an adult

Whilst the only restrictions relating to a child drinking at home are that children under 5 must not be given alcohol.

I don't see a problem with being taught to drink in moderation, it is only a problem if the alcohol given is beyond that which a reasonable person would give a child of that age.
