I was under the impression you apply for asylum before you enter illegally...
If they enter illegally first...they committed a crime first
Sort of...the thing is that CBP refused to allow them to enter through a border crossing, so many of them did enter between ports of entry, but their claim of asylum is still valid. It's explained here:
Quote:
There are two ways to come to the US to claim asylum without having papers. One is to approach the US at an official port of entry, like the one on the end of the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez bridge, and present yourself to agents of CBP’s Office of Field Operations. The other way is to cross into the US between ports of entry — i.e., illegally — and, once caught by a US Border Patrol agent, say you’re seeking asylum. The asylum claim is still legal, but you’ve committed a crime (illegal entry) to make it. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...asylum-illegal
That's not correct max. People applying for asylum have not committed a crime. They can be detained pending hearing of their asylum claim but they are not being held on criminal charges and there is nothing in the law allowing us to separate those people from their children. I'm not lying, you simply have no understanding of the difference between criminal and civil law.
In June a federal court ordered that DHS reunite families and stop separating children from their parents. Until that is changed or overturned THAT is the law.
Is every single person that crosses the border illegally an asylum seeker?
By the way, people "fleeing" from places where people go take vacations are not asylum seekers.
I see that Trump proposed $460M in aid for Honduras, how much got approved. Seems like the solution is to do more to address the violence and economy in Honduras, money well spent. Those are some fairly desperate people willing to walk from Honduras, we should be doing more addressing the problem rather than the symptom.

If conditions were better in these countries they wouldn't come here in the first place, instead of deporting them once they get here we should address the cause.
Who is ‘We’? The U.S. Govt, private citizens, church based charities? Again, what have YOU done to help?
What is so amazing is that these "illegals" will all be detained for who knows how long before getting a hearing. Since they ARE ILLEGAL- why have a hearing to determine IF they are illegal!!!
So advocating for another amnesty over and over, supporting sanctuary cities and opposing securing our border with a wall will not result in a third world nation?
No one matches the hatred on the left....no one!
The anger and hatred come from BOTH sides. Did you see the ad from the GOP candidate from PA that threatened to "stomp on the face of the Dem govenor with golf spikes?
I can't and won't bother to change your mind but, I see the anger from both sides.
The answers are to stop the bickering and sit down and don't stop until these issues are finally resolved.
When were they warned? And when did the law change that allowed the Government to seized children from people seeking asylum?
No law changed. We don't jail the children of criminal offenders in this country, EVER. There has never been a law that provides for "keeping families together". When your parent is arrested and placed in custody, you do NOT get to go with them to jail or prison. That's not how America works!
So stop making these insinuations.
