The Portland Police Bureau reported seeing protest and counter-protest participants outfitted with hard knuckle gloves, knives and firearms earlier in the evening. Police said they made no arrests Saturday night, but will continue to investigate

On Friday, viral video surfaced showing members of the Proud Boys, a right-wing fraternal organization, beating two or three protesters in New York City after an event at the Republican Party headquarters.
Why would a white supremacist religious right theocratic organization march in a place like Portland where they know their views are not the norm? Why not stay in Alabama or Oklahoma where their hateful, bigoted theocratic views are embraced?
Here's the Wikipedia article about the organization. Seems like they exist to try to stir up trouble.
Seriously as someone who lives in the area we should just ban these people from coming here to start this nonsense. They are coming here with the intent to cause violence.
It's unconstitutional to ban the Antifa thugs from travelling from town to town, or state to state. Perhaps you should try having masses of police at these peaceful marches, to immediately arrest anybody who interferes with the permitted activity, or threatens anybody with a weapon (from fists on up), or disturbs the peace, BEFORE they can provoke their targets into responding.
You might suggest to the police to pay special attention to anybody who puts on a mask. Putting on a mask isn't illegal. But having cops stand right next to them as long as they have it on isn't illegal either... and would preserve the peace a lot better than ignoring them.
You ARE interested in preserving the peace, aren't you? Peace such as what the permitted marchers are doing before the far-left Antifa thugs go after them?

Its not unconstitutional at all to ban someone from a city once they appear with weapons in a organized fashion to cause violence to occur. Im not sure why you think violence is somehow a protected right.
I think conservative groups who protest should always wear white, at least white shirts, and behave like Gandhi and Martin Luther King using nonviolent methods. Then when they are attacked by Antifa, we can tell who is violent and the blood will be very photogenic, garnering sympathy for conservatives.
At some point these masked Antifa are going to stop or harass the wrong person and bullets are going to fly. Probably not by some macho guy but a little old man who’s terrified and pulls a gun out of his sweater. These groups can’t keep pushing people around and getting in peoples faces and not expect a reaction at some point .
