I have to say that NYC certainly has it's act together when it comes to crime. The mayor and police seems to be an excellent job compared to other big cities.

While many big cities seem to be rapidly going downhill, NYC certainly seems to have it's act together.

Wonder what the secret is NYC because it just never ceases to amaze how low the crime has gotten there.

Never ceases to amaze how safe NYC is compared to LA, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Boston etc.

It is sort of a miracle the long stretches without a homicide, without a shooting and percentage declines of homicides and shootings year over year.
No gun shootings, but lot's of people shooting up. Everyone is too high to pick up and shoot their gun.

I feel like there is more pressure on police to keep nice areas safe now too. Back then, it seemed like there were less cops, and the ones that WERE there, couldn’t be bothered.
Unfortunately, you can not price out the homeless. Which has become a rampant issue.

For those of us who came of age in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when New York was a buzzword for a crime-ridden, dystopian, Death Wish hellhole, it's nothing short of breathtaking how far the city has turned itself around.

The Bronx had 72 homicides in 2017
The Bronx has 652 homicides in 1990
I think the only explanation is that “hoods” aren’t as hood as they used to be anymore and that’s true for the vast majority of the country by at least a factor of two. You can’t just explain the change in Houston or Midland-Odessa’s murder rate as gentrification and they went through the same process as the Bronx. The simple explanation is the hood is less hood that’s it used to be. It’s not like the Bronx is now an upscale community.

The Bronx was still burning back in 1990 at the height of the crack epidemic. All the good Koch had done was wiped away by Dinkins.

At peak,, NYC cops stopped and frisked nearly 700,000 people, mostly young, black and Hispanic males. In 2016, Supreme Court ruled the Stop and Frisk procedure used by NYC was unconstitutional. The number of Stop and Frisks declined to 12,400. Homicide continued to decline.

NYC has stricter gun laws than Chicago and gun ownership rates are considerably lower than Chicago. The permitting process protracts over months and includes a face to face interview and costs $ 430. About 1/3 of permits are issued to retired LE.

NYC, like Chicago, finds that most guns used in violent crimes come from out of state, specifically states with looser gun laws.

New York City goes entire Friday, Saturday, Sunday without a single shooting

Antifa was busy in Portland, OR.

And no Republican baseball practices were being held that weekend in NYC.

It’s a city that is liberal but at least they seem tough on crime and there is a pride in the city .
Laws actually seem to be enforced there while in L.A the city is really poorly run at least the past several years .
The Mayor in L.A actually calls criminals ... get this .. “justice affected individuals “
