My response going forward is that your grandfather was given a hearing, and allowed in because he passed the requirements. WHY do you think that certain people should not be afforded the same rights as your grandfather. He came in at Ellis Island, they are coming in at the Mexico Texas Border. Other than that, what is the substantive difference? (Don't tell me how they are all criminals, or invaders. Neither one of us know the make-up of the caravan, but we BOTH know that there are some bad people, and some good people. So let's give them the same treatment that "your grandfather" got.)
First, were there any social safety nets (welfare, healthcare, etc.) when the immigrants came through Ellis Island in the early 1900s?

Second, the vast majority of people from Central America are not qualified for a parole to enter US to wait for their pending asylum application because they have no proof that their lives are in danger if they return back to their country due to RACE, RELIGION, NATIONALITY, MEMBERSHIP IN A PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUP, AND POLITICAL OPINION. Gang retaliation, domestic violence abuses, or looking for work are not good enough. If they are not granted parole from CBP, they will be ask to wait in Mexico or their country to wait for a hearing date for their asylum. Right now there are 600k-800k applications waiting for adjudication in EIOR.

Since Trump came into office. He told y'all the boogeyman was coming, and for y'all to get out to polls. He was relentless down the stretch talking about the caravan and invasion, and scary Nancy Pelosi. And after the midterms you hear nothing about the scary caravan.

Let me ask you the following:

How many flophouses filled with illegal aliens do you have on your street? Have you seen your local schools become filled with illegal aliens and anchor babies? If so, did you have kids in the schools at the time? Have you seen MS-13 graffiti in your community? Have you seen a drive by shooting happening to a kid while he was waiting for the school bus? This kid got shot because he refused to join a gang. Three illegals were arrested for the murder. Have you ever had to stop shopping at your local grocery store due to the numbers of illegal alien day laborers who hang out there when they didn't find work that day? When they don't find work, some of them follow customers to their cars and try to unload their groceries for them. A woman shopping alone doesn't need that happening to her.

Do you know of anyone who lost his/her livelihood due to illegal immigration? Many honest people in the construction fields have lost their livelihoods because they couldn't compete with sleazy contractors who hired illegals and paid them under the table.

We didn't need Trump to let us know just how bad the problem of illegal immigration has become. We've seen it all up close and personal. Unlike you, we don't live in an ivory tower.

It's despicable that you make fun of those of us who have experienced these things in our communities. It also shows your ignorance as to the magnitude of the deleterious effects of illegal immigration. Besides, what's with "y'all"? Talk about being condescending.

Finally, how many people from this caravan are you planning to move into your own home and will feed, clothe, shelter and pay for their medical care?

You cannot compare the past to today. We have a 750,000 backlog of asylum cases to review now. Let them ask for asylum at a legal port of entry a just like they did in the past and wait outside our country till we have a chance to review their cases. We are full up allowing them into our country to wait and having to care for them while they do so. Catch and release is a failure also as most never show up for their court dates. The large majority of them are coming here for economic gain and will be rejected anyway as it's not valid reason for asylum.

The boogeyman? Oh, stop with the dramatics! Never before have we ever had thousands coming all together to our border all at once. I was going to the polls long before this caravan and long before Trump took action on it. How many times does it have to be repeated that there was nothing new to report on the caravan. It just started moving again after the elections. They stayed in Mexico City and rested for a few days. So what was there to report? Right after the election Trump signed a new asylum law so it's not as if the wasn't doing anything. You and yours need to get a grip. The election is over and this caravan had nothing to do with it. Sick of this repetitive nonsense a whole damned week after the elections. Find something new to harp about!!!

The obvious point is that some bad things happened due to illegal immigration. Absolutely true and should never have been allowed to happen. And the Feds should have picked up the cost as it was a Federal failure.

But what does that have to do with what happens next? Our residential housing tradesmen here now are all Hispanic but very few are illegal. And in fact the transition to the Hispanics was anti union not anti white guys.

So what we need is a fix rather than whining about what happened. And the only ones likely to work involve a mass legalization of the current illegal alien population.

And all the right can do is delay it which solves nothing.

The GOP expected to lose the House way before the caravan incident. Scare tactics? So addressing a 7,000 person caravan heading towards our border equates to scare tactics? Why don't you guys give it up this is getting old. It didn't change the elections one damned bit! Are you going to beat this thing to death? It's already been explained why this incident hasn't been discussed much lately. Do you have cotton between your ears?
