From the CNN feed it appears the US has put up a purpose-built quick-assembly sectional fence across the traffic lanes right on the border line. So far no attempts to approach or rush the fence.

That number of people camping in Tijuana will lead to riots and breakdown of law and order. Both Mexico and the migratns are enganged in a game of chicken, counting on the US to blink first and let them in. They still don't beleive Trump can stop them. Judging by these half baked plans that are being floated, I am not sure the migrants are wrong. The only way out is for Mexico to turn on them and that needs time. Who blinks first remains to be seen.
Left alone, Trump could easily stop them. The only question is will he be able to successful navigate the Ninth Circus's blockades.
This is Trump's moment. If he screws this up, his entire base will turn on him. This is the number one thing that he was elected to do: Stop illegal immigration.
This. I've not said anything like this about any other topic but I'll echo this. If Trump can't stand up to the Ninth and block these caravans then what good is he? His rough unpolished nature and political inexperience has caused a lot negative aspects that even his supporters acknowledge but they have lent greater weight to the things he has managed to do and still intends to do. But if he can't manage to block mass illegal immigration via caravans after having months to prepare then he isn't going to be able to get a wall built.
My understanding is that they rushed past Mexican police to occupy the "no mans land" (I know it's not the right term) between the Mexican POE and the US POE but have made no attempts to confront US guards or scale the wall or push past the US POE gates/lanes.
Some tore small holes in the razor wire fencing and BP responded with tear gas.
The nightmare scenario as mentioned above is if these illegals decide to storm the borders. But I don't think that will happen because even the illegals themselves know that this would make them look bad in the eyes of the world media. The world media is already fawning over them because they are supposedly escaping persecution back home, it would not look good if the illegals then decided to use force and violence.
I really don't think they care. Like liberals, the ends justifies the means. So long as they get into America where the courts will coddle them, they don't care what it "looks" like. They alrerady used violence on Mexico's southern border. They have waved Honduran flags and trashed Tijuana but none of that will matter to Ninth Circus.
