Good luck getting that ID card through when one party has strongly resisted even a voter ID card being required just by the citizens who want to vote. Imagine the outcry they will create with national ID card proposal. ( screams of Hitler, stop and ask for papers, Jews etc will fly).

Your response indicates clearly you do not understand the issue.

The implementation of an ID card or passport has been an issue for decades. it has generally been opposed by the right as giving the Feds too much information and control.

It is its existence that is at issue. We all agree that a passport for leaving the country is reasonable.

But we have always resisted any document to control your internal movement or employment. And the resistance to voting ID only goes to those implementations that would lower the participation of lower socioeconomic classes. There are quite acceptable voter IDs. Republicans generally do not like them.

You're right. The poster who keeps claiming that we have to physically deport millions of illegals to rid ourselves of them constantly ignores the numerous things we have stated how we can make them self-deport. He keeps repeating the same old worn out lines for example that legalizing them will cut down the number of illegal aliens here. Well duh, if we make speeding no longer a traffic violation we'd have no speeders either. What kind of mind uses that kind of idiotic logic?

I won't get into an unnecessary tussle on who understands or who does not understand the issues or which party is the obstructionist but would like to find common ground with you.

I support a National ID card. Have a national ID number. Indicate if one is a citizen or greencard holder. Temporary people in the country on other visas like H1, F1, K1 etc get temporary ID card with expiration dates.

The same card will also serve as voter card if it clearly states US citizen. If you don't have any card and cannot prove you are in the country legally you will be deported - no ifs or buts. Only way to bring sanity to the immigration debacle.

Why are you telling this to Trump? Say it to the mob that is about to rush the border. They didn'te get the memo it seems.

Ah yes OG and another absurd post. If we really caught every speeder know what would happen? First we would need to hire a million or so new traffic officers. Then we would bring most non rush hour traffic to a halt. Last time I drove across Las Vegas at least 80% of the drivers were speeding. So we go out and stop it and bring the whole city to a halt. That is standard OG logic.

And yes of course you could do things that make them deport themselves. For instance you could kill the oldest child of those who don't leave. Would probably work if you could actually do it. But then again the oldest child may well be a citizen. So then we have to kill or jail forever our agent.

Or we could be more civil and simply jail all who hire an illegal. Simple huh. But we also jail all who fail to hire a Hispanic citizen who applies and is not hired for fear he/she is illegal.

In no time at all it would become impossible to tell who was actually running the business.

Why engage the military? Why be afraid and try to generate fearmongering. We have a process in place. Why all the hype?

Tempest in a tea pot.
I believe they would have to be put under the command of the US Border Patrol to make it a constitutional operation.

Is there some rhetoric out there which suggests they are going to "storm the border" and overrun our border patrol types? Is that the State Media line? How do we know they, like everyone before them, aren't going to arrive here, apply for entry, and comply with our policies just like many before them?
Here is the rub. Nobody is turned back. So basically there is no border. Everyone gets in under the pretense of asylum. It takes a simple executive decision. All applications for asylum are only accepted at the US consulate offices, not at the border.

Actually once they set foot in the US you cannot send them back. You have to deal with them and then send them back to their origin country. That is by international treaty.
