Is Russia a failed state? By these measurements it's not even relevant.

FYI, so you get it right next time, CA is # 8 in the USA in GDP per capita. Furthermore, it is #2 (after NY) if we measured only states with a diversified and large economy. For example, ND and WY have high GDP's because they are stripped untold resources and almost no one lives there.

Short and sweet - by an economic measure, CA and NY are the most successful states in the USA. Only right wing echo chambers could make vids explaining how the best - are not the best.

I suppose they think MS and AR are the top dogs, eh?

So, next time you comment, you can state that it IS significantly more productive than other states with a diverse economy. You can also make sure to let others know that those companies choose CA for their HQ for that very reason. They aren't moving to AL or MS at least peek.

TN is a large state with resources, factories and at least 100 more years of development to work from. Yet the GDP is 43K per capita as opposed to 58K+ in CA.

That means CA is 40% higher. In your mind, 40% is "not significant". Wow.
We're not talking about Russia - this is about a state of the United States. So what do you think CA is compared to?

CA GDP is within 10% of the national GDP per capita. That's what I meant when I say its roughly proportional. Its only slightly higher on a per capita GDP basis.

That is not "significantly" more productive, and its also the most indebted state in the nation, with the biggest pension cliff, the highest number of people living in poverty, and is therefore the least sustainable.

Maybe it's too little, too late.
Also, I'm not positive, but I believe some of the original tussle was about property taxes, not just income taxes.

Well, are you a Republican, always voting for lower taxes, trying to avoid raising taxes at all costs?

It was primarily about property taxes. But despite that, personal income tax collections in CA have far outstripped both inflation and population growth.

Ergo, Californians pay more tax than they ever have before on average. Not to mention that the sales tax is more than twice what it was when I was born here.

Especially "the rich" who really get soaked. Just 400,000 people pay about half of all of the income tax.

I'm wondering what will happen in CA now that state taxes can no longer be fully deducted from federal income tax (due to the Trump 2017 tax cut bill).

I'm guessing there will be massive pressure from both Hollywood and Silicon valley to dial back state taxes.

Not a Republican. How I vote is my business. If I can choose to keep every cent I have, rather than spend it on sanctuary cities, abortions, safe injection sites and other such things, I'm damned sure going to choose to keep as much as possible. I see no reason to pay for the poor moral and fiscal choices of others, or even the accident of their birth circumstances and genetic background.

Pretty much they hate California because it's a big state that can't be pushed around and we don't care what people in other states think. It's funny they spend a lot of time talking about California but I seldom hear anyone in California mention any other state other than talking about their vacations.

Except for all those Californians that are flocking to Montana. BTW, Montanans wish they'd stayed in California.
