Panic Sinking in Among Wisconsin Manufacturers as Tariffs Continue

The first “hand grenade,” as Parmentier described it, was a 25 percent tariff the European Union placed this year on boats built in the U.S., along with scores of other products including Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Then there was a 10 percent tariff slapped on boats shipped to Canada, along with price increases up to 40 percent on boat building materials. It’s sent a shock wave through U.S. boat manufacturers.
“We’ve had a lot of order cancellations. Canada and Europe have essentially stopped buying boats,” Parmentier said. About 450 people work at the company, a large employer in a town of 3,600 residents.
If boat orders continue to slide because of the trade wars, Parmentier said, it will trigger layoffs that could last a long time.

Across America’s heartland, small and midsize manufacturers are reeling from higher costs and lost business attributed to a breakdown in foreign trade.

Leftist state media is 92% negative and will continue to run with the fearmongering headlines.
The tariff boogeyman is only part of their story. They alternate between fear, hate and violence.

Op is funny. If one has followed the Wisconsin anti-Walker mob, there is no industry in Wisconsin, being Governor Walker’s complete fault.

Which is it. No industry due to a Republican Governor or a Republican President is destroying the industry? La resistance is so, so fickle.

So, according to right-wing logic; it is not possible that both the governor and the president are both doing harm to Wisconsin??

If the quarterback is having a bad game, then right-wing logic dictates the running back cannot also be playing badly. That's right-wing logic for ya.

I have posted a study that shows ALL of Wisconsin's neighboring states with similar industries have outperformed Wisconsin by miles during Walker's term.

The media is just the messenger.

When truth is against you, I guess the only other option is to kill the messenger.

Thanks for supplying ZERO FACTS in support of your statement. Snowflake Donny may get away with that at his Dog & Pony Shows but it doesn't work here.

So you say this guy isn't losing business?

And yes fear mongering is now owned by both parties.

Walker sucks.

Op did you care about Wisconsin’s economy for the last 30 years as it’s suffered under nafta and free trade?

Or do you only care now that the suffering is an anti trump talking point?

Wrong.

https://www.badgerinstitute.org/BI-F...s/Vol13no2.pdf

"Since NAFTA started, over half of Wisconsin’s overall $3.4 billion gain in world exports went to Mexico
and Canada. In other words, the state’s exports to just two of the world’s 170-plus nations accounted for over
half its rise in exports since 1994. Mexico and Canada are now among the most dependable markets for
Wisconsin. For instance, from 1997-98, among its top 7 export markets, Wisconsin saw a rise in exports
only to Mexico and Canada, and those rises were at double-digit levels."

" Overall, since NAFTA started, Kenosha’s combined exports to Mexico and Canada have increased by
a staggering 745%. This NAFTA jump was led by Kenosha exports to Canada, which have increased 827%
under NAFTA.
