They weren't fake. Not very well made, but still were capable of exploding and killing and maiming.
Whoever the would-be bomber is, his thought processes are not normal, and obviously neither are his actions, so he cannot be judged as if he were a typical Republican or Democrat, neither of whom would engage in this sort of thing, despite the increasing differences between the two parties.
There is still a line to be drawn, and this guy crossed it. It's called insanity.

Maybe the fact that the "bomb" wasn't in the correct envelope for 1... assuming it was a steel pipe bomb with traditional explosives packed in it, it would weigh about a pound and a half at least. It wouldn't ship with stamps in that envelope.
Look at the photos of that package. The stamps were not post marked. Someone planted it/delivered it.
Probably many, IF not most, people who attend Trump RALLIES have some type of mental problem—Anger management and hate issues first and foremost.

Really. I mean chanting "lock her up" still, after a bomb threat? Hope Trump doesn't add fuel to the fire tonight. But he'll probably just stand there mute at best.
While Trump's words were appropriate this afternoon (even if they were obviously not really "his" words), his facial expression said it all. He looked resentful, angry, seething, and I don't think it was about the bomber but about being hampered in his usual style at tonight's rally. It will be interesting to see if he goes off-script as he usually does, and if he forgoes the usual fire-'em-up chants and fake accusations. It won't be an easy night for him.
It’s been horribly apparent since the election that the entirety of the democrat party is one big churning cesspool of psychological disfunction.
