Some say Progressivism is the new Western religion...
Quote:
Bells chimed and a flute played during a special internment ceremony and memorial service. It was structured like a Episcopal funeral with bishops' sermons, choirs and scripture readings. The Gothic cathedral is the second largest in the country and has hosted presidential funerals.

Mother Judy Shepard said it's a chance to put her son's ashes somewhere "safe" and complete closure. Family members and gay advocates are hopeful the crypt will become a symbol for LGBT rights.
Is Shepard the first saint/martyr of Progressivism to be enshrined? Who will be next?

It was a dreadful murder and I am pleased he is being properly remembered in this way.

Now sure why a drug addict/dealer and prostitute being killed during a drug deal gone bad by other drug dealers/addicts merits interring ashes at the National Cathedral, but nobody ever said causes célèbre become "the thing" based on truth.

Shephard wasn't targeted or killed because he was gay. He was targeted because a a chronic meth-head and a known criminal suspected he had a big pile of meth worth about $10k, and that night he was supposed to have that meth or the money on him. When McKinney encountered Shephard that night, he was in day 5 of a meth bender, dead ass broke, desperate for money, and looking to score drugs and cash. Shephard knew both his assailants, since they were all in the meth dealer/boy prostitute gig, and the beating/murder was about psycho meth heads doing psycho meth head nonsense based on the "logic" that goes through the brain of a psycho meth head on a 5 day meth bender.

Lots of drug dealers get killed by other drug dealers every day in America, and I wonder why none of them are having their ashes interred at the National Cathedral.

The young man was murdered over drugs, not because he was gay. I feel so sorry for his parents. I'm glad they found a resting place for him, perhaps they will find comfort now.

People get murdered every day for a variety of reasons. Can they all go to the national cathedral?

I'm in the "Rocky Mountain West," and I haven't seen any haunted people around me over the last however many years concerning this matter. I'd never even heard of the guy until I saw this on the news recently.

What makes you think the general public is any more likely to remember this particular murder over all the other thousands of murders, abductions, kidnappings, assaults, etc, that happen constantly all around us?

There was a skeleton of a young woman found in a nearby canyon a couple of months ago, identified as a local college student who disappeared some years ago. According to evidence, presumed raped and killed. I'm sure her death was just as traumatic. I don't see any gilded tomb for her, though.
