I don't have a problem with private companies doing what they want... unless they are taking money from the government - then their rules should be different - that's for a different thread.
But when Hodgkinson attempts a mass murder of government officials at the baseball field, who did Paypal cut off? ... who did Twitter censor? Rachel Maddow was his favorite show. What about the groups he frequented? Is Al-Qaida types groups still recruiting on Twitter, YouTube and does PayPal take their money?
This is the problem with their "holier than thou" attitude towards certain types of "hate" activity - versus other acts of hate that they approve.
exactly. it all depends on whose ox is getting gored.
What makes this aspect of free speech so knotty is that a place like GAB will attract not just the extremists among us, but the folks that watch and track those extremists, both LE and vigilantes. I haven't visited it yet, but I'm thinking I will.
I think it's funny how lefties tell people who don't like how they're censoring the mainstream social media platforms to go start their own platform so they can run it how they want. Then when they do that the left does whatever it can to get that platform shut down.
We are seeing the layers of censorship expose themselves.
Layer 1 - Social - Peer pressure, ridicule, cutting off relationships, etc
Layer 2 - Technical - Twitter shadow bans, Google suspends accounts
Layer 3 - Monetary - Paypal chokes off the ability to pay for services
Layers 2 ans 3 of this censorship is not done by the government, but by people running these virtual tech monopolies.
So if you don't like this trend, we have to stop feeding the monopolies, because they are obviously approving one side and blocking the other. It's OK by them to express sentiments of killing the President and recruiting terrorists. It it not OK to express sentiments like life for the unborn, or conservatism from black people.

Then we have
Layer 4 - Legislative - Government makes laws that are faverouble for the cartels. Like the new EU copyright directive.
Layer 5 - Blocking - Government starts blocking websites, often under false pretense.
Layer 6 - VPNs - Government blocks VPNs and arrest people who try to circumvent censorship.
They just needed a reason...this false flag did it. Can't have people expressing their free speech no matter WHAT they say good, bad or ugly, hateful or not...its not allowed! Gab was already under attack and this may shut them down for good...its the system trying to control ALL speech and confine it to social media they can control like FB,Twitter,Youtube...all alternates to those are going to be under attack.
....People died.
You're referring to it as a "false flag" (which, I should add, is horrible nomenclature).
Good riddance to Gab in whatever BS came out of it.
Do all of these celebratory posts about the impending demise of Gab mean that if someone starts a thread about twitter and/or facebook censorship a few weeks from now that we won't see any of you lefties telling the complainants to just go and form their own social media platform if they don't like it?
