And my response was to keep anyone who is not safe to release back into society locked up.
If a person is not safe enough to be around kids, then they shouldn't be allowed in public period.
But if someone has been deemed to be safe enough to return to society, then they should have all rights restored.
To which I was asked if convicted pedophiles should be allowed to be around kids.
See, the Left wants it both ways....
They want to let pedophiles and other felons out of prison and restore just enough of their rights that they can use them as a voting base.
And that is exchanging the kid's safety for votes.
There are sentencing guidelines in all states. For child molestation most call for very, long prison terms followed by a long parole period and lifetime sex registration. That's not a democratic thing or a republican thing, sentences for those kinds of crimes tend to be just as long in blue states as in red states. Most people do not want to see child molesters go free regardless of how they vote.
Your claim that "they" want to let out pedophiles and other felons so that they can use them as a voting base is not only wrong headed it's just plain silly and you have provided zero evidence that it is even remotely true, so why not back off and pursue an argument that you can win?
Know what should horrify you? That 7% of that population have been to prison. We imprison a insane amount of our population. That horrifies me. Letting people vote? Not so much.
Does it horrify you that so many have been imprisoned or does it horrify you that so many people are committing serious crimes with so little thought for the impact that it has on themselves and others? I would argue that it should be the latter.
Just keeps the real law and order types happy. Everything in life is a compromise......
The "Jim Crow" part of the Constitution is gone.....and it certainly wasn't "the left" that gave them their rights back.
I'd be interested in polling on that question......
My guess - 80% of Dems, 40% of Republicans and 60% of Independents.
Anyone know the real score? More proof that "the left" is what the people want if we are to believe the OP....which I don't. What I believe is that most reasonable people can see the fairness of an issue.
Glad to see that we're allowing for American Citizens to be allowed to vote
