Exactly. We let over 1 million people in this country legally every year. People that actually contribute and produce more than they take out.

They rely on cheap labor, it may not be PC to admit that, but its true.

Same thing for the illegal activities they engage in, like drug smuggling..law enforcement relies on the drug flow being consistent, in order to continually justify fighting the drug war...if the drug flow was stopped tomorrow, what would law enforcement be doing, no one selling or buying drugs, because there is none coming in!

They rely on this for their livelihood.

Not according to this - https://www.migrationpolicy.org/prog...nent-Residents

Chart is a bit difficult to read, but looks like there was an all-time high in 1990 or thereabouts. Then decreased, then increased again about 2005. Latest data in this chart is 2016, which shows an increase from 2005, but still well below the all-time peak.

The Fed Chair isn't someone I'm looking to for big picture solutions to illegal immigration.

They are not offering big picture solutions, they are merely commenting on a financial aspect.

I'm curious where you suggest they wait. They would first have to obtain advance parole from USCIS, otherwise the asylum application is considered abandoned. If they go back to their home country, the application will be considered abandoned. Even if they somehow survive that, their status could be revoked even after becoming a permanent resident.

What you're suggesting is completely absurd. You're just demonstrating your total ignorance of how this works.

But back on topic, what do asylum seekers have to do with the fact that you can't grow GDP as much if you don't have either massive productivity gains or large population growth?

for who? I'm sure if you open up the borders and double the immigrants we take yearly a few here will benefit. Like the landlords that will jack up the rent while the taxpayers pay for it.

This is a reduction from the 45,000 cap for the current year. And the actual number admitted this year to date is a bit less than 23,000.

I was unable to find similar numbers for non-refugee immigrants, but I find it hard to believe that the number is greater than it's been in the past.

???? I thought this was the goal - cut down on all immigrants, both legal and illegal, in order to open up more jobs for citizens.

Wiki shows an increase of 132,000 permanent residents from 2015 to 2016. Maybe you're right. Maybe it is down slightly under Trump. Regardless, there has not been a significant decrease in legal immigration. Reducing refugees by 15,000 is insignificant to over a million legal immigrants.

The Fed chair is doing what liberals so often do - lumping legal and illegal immigration together.

He is referring to immigration in general, legal and illegal.

I just find it interesting that the view is coming from an economic stand point, and when Mr. Powell is fired we'll know why.
Head of the central bank....there's no agenda there.

This is what they told European countries, as well.

Now look at those countries. Overrun by "refugees" who lie, steal, injure, attack, and kill the very people who bought into that lie.

If people haven't woken up yet, there's no hope for them at this point.
