It was cheaper for some people, but not for women, older people and people with pre-existing conditions, and the cost of healthcare has been going up every year for decades and it usually exceeded the inflation rate. The ACA slowed the increase in the cost of healthcare, and provided many people with healthcare who didn't previously have access.

With a filibuster proof majority in the Senate (until Scott Brown was seated), something Republicans did not experience after 2016 and will not experience in 2019.
