President Bush made a run at fixing the mess in 2003. Here we are in 2018 with an entire city burned up because we did nothing.

Good background information here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health...sts_Initiative

Notice the initiative was endorsed by the Society of American Foresters.

The problem goes beyond forests into the shrub ecosystems found throughout the west. There the problem is on National Forests, particularly in the LA basin, but most of it is outside of federal lands.

That issue is more difficult to address since the governmental structure is also a problem in these areas.

We have an "epidemic of trees" is this country. That same increase in biomass is also occuring on shrub ecosystems that transition into forested ecosystems.

If you do not deal with the increase in biomass on those lands, nature will do it for you through wildfire. The more biomass the greater the fires. On some of the fires areas, they have burned so hot that the soil has been essentially sterilized.

At some point, we will run out of areas that have been burned. But with hundreds of millions of acres of wildlands, it will be sometime before we burn over all the public and private lands with natural vegetation.

The choice is simple. Thin and use prescribed fire to reduce biomass or let in burn in wildfires. You really need to do both in most situations.
^^^^ This ……………… “Mother nature will clear the forest floor, if you don’t.”

President Trump addressed CA government -- and Gov Jerry Brown AGREES with him, noting the need for thinning / logging this summer – and recently signing legislation in that vein.

I don’t know how much loss and destruction it will take for CA to see the err of its ways. Probably a little more (unfortunately!!).

Maybe CA wants to be the sanctuary of FIRE too?

The city of Houston was an accident waiting to happen too with flooding. Didn't notice the Hamburgler threatening to withhold THEIR funds.

29 people dead and threats are the best this moronic potus could muster.

No excuses.

Whoever set these fires should get the death penalty.
Here’s a dirty non-secret for you. Best information at this time is that the fire was sparked by a PG&E powerline malfunction ... but why let investigations interfere with assigning innocent people the death penalty? Didn’t stop your hero Donald J. Chump, from continuing to advocate death for the Central Park 5 after they were found innocent ... so there’s your power justification: just follow the lead of your favorite deranged moron.

And I don’t know how much ignorance it will take for Chump supporters to finally grasp the nature of their leader’s ignorance ... These fires are not the result of poor forest management ...

The president of the United States is ignorant of the process of forest management and wildfires," he said.

J. Keith Gilless, chair of the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection and a professor of forest economics at the University of California, Berkeley, said Trump "is at best uninformed" on the topic.

"California has always been a leader with respect to sound, science-based forest management practices on private land," he said in an email. "Unfortunately, these practices don't have much influence on wind speed, temperature, relative humidity, or drought cycles, even if they may help us to address the long-term threat of climate change."

The president has proposed cuts to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for two consecutive years, including a 15 percent reduction in funding for 2019. The department oversees the U.S. Forest Service.

The state of California keeps a rainy day fund for disasters such as flooding, earthquakes and fires.

"They plan for it very well," Rice said, singling out California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) for being on top of the state's wildfires.
But heck, why listen to scientists when the Moron -in-Chief says they don’t know as much as he knows? Right?

Trump is quick to tweet something he doesn’t even understand. The idiot never reads a book. He loves to rile people up. That’s what he does best.

If the liberals are whining, sniveling, attacking other posters, and name calling then President Trump must be getting ready to help the entire countryAGAIN and .,...yeah federal funds are being gobbled up for salaries and perks to employees---we all know it and it should mean some serious consequences for those involved...lets hope federal investigators get here quick...planning of housing developments, managing brush and forest areas in critical and our money is not being used recently...thanks to the President for getting the ball rolling and hopefully some heads will roll soon!! better fire-prone wild lands management and accountability for forest service personnel- waaay past due.

This is the truth!

Of course, had Obama made the same statement regarding the fires he would have been applauded by his fans.

Which emitted more atmospheric pollution; cars, truck, planes, trains and ships in the last ten years or just a couple of the volcanoes that erupted this year? LOTS of volcanoes erupting even now !! Go stop them! The Indonesians would LOVE to talk with anyone concerned about greenhouse gases...go on-- do your duty!!

1. You need to read what the forestry scientist professionals have to say as linked in my post a few back ...

2. Hilarious ... Obama would never have made any such stupid, irresponsible, lying statements ... so ...
