Which we know can neither anticipate crime, nor respond in a timely manner to avoid violence from occurring.

What could go wrong?
" in which gun enthusiasts"

" untrained first-time gun buyers."

And how do YOU know they are UNTRAINED? The article does NOT say ANYTHING about it.

Why wild anyone bring up "bump" stocks when it looks like the people are bying pistols?

Reads like the typical exaggeration hit piece from many left "news" outlets.

Simply buying a gun is not good enough. Law abiding citizens need to be allowed to bring their guns to the concert, malls, etc.

Nothing. Murder is still murder.

Big deal. How many handguns have stopped a mass shooting? In real life?

It's just a downward spiral of guns, shootings and more guns. Sad.

In most places where mass shooting occur all guns are BANNED. They are gun free zones. Private citizens are not allowed to carry there, especially schools, government buildings, concert venues, sporting venues, most corporate offices, etc. I have license to carry, yet my place of work doesn't allow me to carry there. Therefore, I am effectively disarmed Monday through Friday. They do NOT provide any armed security to protect me. I am fish in a barrel for anyone that enters illegally with a gun. How is that right?

Since this is going to be our new normal, people need to face reality and protect themselves.

1. Carry a concealed weapon.

I am not saying everybody needs to carry his/her weapon on his/her hip for all to see (and to be impressed with).

I am saying carrying a compact handgun chambered in a reasonably powerful caliber. You also better be able to handle it and fire it safely and accurately, or you risk doing more harm than good. You have to be trained and competent to effectively use your weapon to stop a mass shooter. If you are, use it when the time comes.

2. Get low and go

Hug the ground to avoid gunfire, do not panic

3. work as a team

4. The worst case scenario, you are going to die, then throw stuff and charge.

No one should just sit there and cry, waiting to die.

Pretty much every mass shooter has been stopped with either a gun or the threat of a gun. They've either been shot by the good guys, shot themselves when the good guys with guns showed up, or surrendered in the face of superior firepower.

Should we just ask the shooters nicely to stop shooting?

Well that's one of those questions without an answer.

Ie, was someone thinking of shooting at this place, saw indications of handguns (somehow), and decided to go elsewhere?

We won't know unless we catch them and interrogate them.

Is that an unreasonable hypothesis? Well, it was the reason I was taught to do visible drills for anti terrorism in the 80s. Show them that we are not an easy target, that they should go elsewhere.
