Interesting, in the actual voting booths, more voters voted for Clinton than Trump. Trump won the electoral college, he didn't win the majority of the popular vote. And if Sanders had run, Trump might still have won the electoral college. The Democrats are going to have to consider the electoral college trending more conservative than the general population, and how to win the electoral college.

We shall see what happens in 2019. Certainly Trump is not going to be given a rubber stamp for funding his Border Wall, etc., from the new House majority.

Actually, in all my 70 years it seems that the American Public likes the concept of Checks and Balances in Power. A divided Congress if you want to call it that. They do not like one political power in complete control.
While I am happiest when the government is gridlocked (meaning that I'm happy the Dems took the House), there was no "sweep" this election. The Dems won the fewest midterm elections by the opposing party in years.

How to win the Electoral College? It's easy, even though certain democrat candidates don't realize it; simply present yourself favorably to "Middle America". If you win those states, as well as the population centers of the East and West coasts, you will win the popular vote AND the Electoral College.
Of course, the first thing to do is nominate a person who is acceptable to "Middle America", not just the Left and Right coast.
Biden: Maybe, but possibly not.
Clinton (ANY Clinton): Probably no.
Sanders: Doubtful.
Who does the democrat party have that might be able to present themselves favorably to "Middle America"?
Pelosi? NO.
Waters? Oh, h e l l no.
Feinstein? Not a chance.

I may have to vote Libertarian in 2020.

Go right ahead, but you know voting Libertarian is throwing your vote away.

Nope.

The party is its registered voter base, not the party leaders.

The voters overwhelmingly support Bernie’s ideas over Main Stream Democratic politicians.

A huge problem Sanders had with African-American voters was, ironically, the push for early voting. Many had voted a presumed "Clinton obligation" before they even knew who Sanders was.

And very few knew of the behind-the-scenes shenanigans Clinton's team was running against an honest comprehension of Sanders.

Yup, in South Carolina the black voters said they don’t know or care who Bernie was.

But now he has more name recognition, if the democrats rally around him he’ll win.

If the Democrats rally around ANYONE, they’ll stand a chance.

That’s the damned point of party politics.

We don’t want Bernie for President. He wants to spend too much money. Free college? While a nice idea, the US is already so far in debt, we can’t afford it. He’s too old and he isn’t even a Democrat.

The Pubs want the Dems to nominate Bernie because they know he’ll lose. I’m aware of their game...

Same with Maxine Waters.
