That means the poor and middle class will pay the bulk of the taxes to keep the nation afloat. .
The more money you have, the more stuff you buy, right?

Food and essentials have never had a sales tax and would be political suicide to even bring that up.

People who earn the least, have the least to lose from overthrowing the system and taking your stuff by force. We saw this in many socialist revolutions in the 20th century.
In nature there is no such thing as "money" or "private property" those are all contracts between individuals and their government. In nature all that counts is what you can defend by force. While I admire your libertarian idealism - it's just idealism. If your system would ever be implemented, it would be see through its own destruction within a matter of years.

Well, there is an IRS for a reason, and people who don't report their income accurately run the risk of being jailed, having their property confiscated, etc.
Again, there is no such thing as "private property" in nature. It does not exist. It's a contract between you and the government, and that contract comes with a rule you pay taxes
Liberty: Choice.
They take money from you before you ever see it, or others that by a certain day, you better be paid up, or face a gun pointed at you.
What if everyone had a choice just how much money they thought government needed from them, to keep them in control of us, or just to fix infrastructure only.
What would you be willing to pay monthly or yearly to the government, if it was your choice? Instead of having to be robbed, or intimidated with violence.
Don't tax food, medicine, clothing or domicile expenses and I'm on board with it.
A luxury tax. Things you don't need to survive. No tax on the essentials including some clothing and anything baby.
