I think Pelosi would be kinder to Trump then some of the others, like Jerry Nadler, say.

I believe the Dems need new blood as well, but right now, Pelosi is the most qualified, and she apparently is pretty well-respected and very good at managing the caucus. When Bush was president, there were Articles of Impeachment drawn up, and Nancy Pelosi told them to knock it off.

Trump and the GOP have tried to turn her into a cartoon character, but she's not. Have you ever seen an in-depth interview with her? She is very intelligent, very knowledgeable, very well-spoken. Trump actually looks like an idiot next to her knowledge-wise.

The reason she is still there is because she is good. And, frankly, I would like a calm mature sane voice to cool down all the hot young progressive first-time congress members (like Alexandria), who are ready to set the world on fire.

If some GOP members support her--great. We need unity or at least the pretense of it. Isn't everyone sick of fighting with each other, when there is one guy driving this? Trump--the name caller. And he's the problem.

All those people that tell you she is stupid or crazy are Trump supporters who do not think his daily 20 crazy comments matter and think he's competent.

The majority seem to be with her--a few interesting comments on Twitter:

"...Important. The anti-Pelosi push is coming from centrists who are still in the old cringe position, buying into GOP demonization (which happens to any strong Democrat) despite a huge midterm victory. Progressives should not empower this kind of thing..."

"...When I worked for @NancyPelosi, she had just become Democratic Whip - the first woman of either party to hold that rank. She whipped the caucus to vote against the war in Iraq, even after Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt stood with President Bush in support of the war....

"...Propaganda has so deeply permeated our society that even many democrats hate Pelosi and HRC without being able to identify anything beyond the misinformation and polemic they were fed. Propaganda works..."

No actually the cannon quote came from an unnamed 'Senior Democratic source.

One senior Democratic source said the new majority, which takes power in January, is preparing a "subpoena cannon," like an arena T-shirt cannon.

However, if the Huffington Post article is correct, there are more than 20 Democrats who are committed to not voting for her. If that is right, Nancy Pelosi will not be the next speaker of the House. It will be someone else. I will not venture to guess who, other than it will be a Democrat in Congress.
Unless republicans vote her in. A great way to get the wall. Vote to pass wall and you will get the votes .

The process as it stands seems destined to re-instate Pelosi. All she needs is a simple majority of the Dem caucus, and then all Democrats are bound by rules to vote for her on the floor. If the naysayers only have 17 House Democrats thus far, it would seem to be virtually a done deal.

The letter is a statement that they do not intend to be "bound" to vote for Pelosi. They do not seem to think that this "rule" is applicable to them.

It's going to be hard enough for House Dems to accomplish anything, so they need to proceed carefully.
I agree - she needs to stay - for 2 years. And then she needs to leave.

Wink Trump saves the day

Doesn't matter what the rebel Democrats will do. Why?
  • Trump has clearly stated that he will ensure that enough Republicans vote for Nancy so she will win the Speakership.
He did not say what he's getting in return. Remember the Speaker is elected via election of ALL members of congress.

But IMO, you guys salivating like Pavlov's dogs that Trump will be impeached or investigated are going to be crying a lot of big tears yet again.

Trump still winning.

17 Democrats will pledge Monday to vote against Nancy Pelosi: 'We are committed'

Seventeen Democrats will formally promise on Monday to vote against Nancy Pelosi's bid to be House speaker, a move the defectors hope will deny her the speaker’s gavel and force her to step aside.

In a letter that will be sent to their Democratic colleagues, the 17 Democrats pledge to oppose Pelosi in the caucus and floor votes for speaker. The move to oust Pelosi comes two weeks after Democrats seized control of the House with their largest majority since 1974.

Pelosi needs 218 votes to be the next speaker. It looks like it could be a squeaker.

As it stands, the Democrats are expected to hold a margin of about 235-200 over the Republicans. If so, she can only have about 15 Democrats fail to support her in the House vote, or she would not be elected.

According to the Huffington Post, there are more than 20 Democrats who are ready to publish a letter pledging not to vote for Pelosi as the next Speaker of the House. They believe that some newer, possibly younger leadership is needed.

This matter is further complicated by the fact that nobody appears to currently be running against Pelosi. The strategy appears to be to make it clear that she cannot win, and then some new leaders will stand forward to replace her.

Of course the Democrats prefer a centrally controlled agenda and this sort of "grass roots" style leadership is considered distasteful by the Democrat party elites. This is not how this is supposed to work, in their view. Stay tuned, this could be interesting.

Just another media and Republican blitz to replace Pelosi. Pelosi is doing a great job!

This appears to be a list of Congressional Democrats who are committing publicly to oppose Pelosi. How are the Republicans in any way involved in this?
