Let's face it: the GOP is basically gone in California and NY. Democrats are in total control. The GOP is tainted by Donald Trump and is unelectable among mainstream "blue state" voters--at least not electable enough to hold majorities in statewide elections.
The Democratic Party is increasingly a "progressive" party with positions that would be viewed as far-left from the perspective of a neutral observer from even, say, 2008.
That leaves plenty of people in the center and center-right voiceless in "blue" states.
So is it time for a new center or center-right party in "blue" states, untainted by Donald Trump, in order to provide an electable alternative to far-left Democratic politicians?
California might be an almost totally blue state but look how right wing the policies are. Thats because they serve the top 0.1% at the expense of the ordinary citizens. In CA, labor unions are crushed, the minimum wage is far from livable, health care is privatized and out of reach for huge numbers of people and big money is totally dominating politics.
What is needed is a pro-worker real progressive party. Not identity politics nonsense claiming they are "progressive" while serving Wall Street and the billionaire class at the expense of the people.
Both parties are a mess and it is not Trumps fault. Trump is merely the outcome of a a confused Republican party that can't seem to get on board with a solid message and the Democrat party that has swung to the far Left and offer the wrong message.
If the Dems can't step away from their identity politics, their victim blaming/shaming, blaming the Police for the problems in minority communities while calling them all racist, calling for ICE to be disbanded and championing the Rights of illegal immigrants while skipping over so many needy citizens we will be seeing another term for Trump come 2020.
Considering what the Dems seem to stand for today another 4 years of Trump might actually be a positive for America as a whole.
The Democratic party is the center center/right party. There is no liberal party with any power in the USA.
the Democrats USED to be center left....but for the last 50 years they have pushed so far to the left you might as well call them the socialist party of america

No. There's a left-wing fringe, but the Democratic party is centrist conservative, and has been ever since the Clinton administration.
The fringe, like it always is, gets all the noise, while the vast numbers of the Democratic moderates get no attention at all.

Straight out of the talking heads on radio and tele.
Progressives. Where did that word come from in this context?

I agree with this. The Republican Party has been tainted by some of Trumps incompetence, but some of Trumps policies are dead on. Tax cuts, standing up to China on trade, securing the border and stopping the far left from legislating from the bench are some big Trump wins. Most republicans however would like to see a more controlled and disciplined man in the White House. The fact that the left is so looney seems to guarantee that Trump at least has a fighting chance to win in 2020. Most Americans are terrified of what will happen if a far left socialis government takes power. Most regular Americans in my opinion would welcome a third party, one that is centrist to right leaning. A lot of people are just plain afraid of the things going on. Still it does not matter, the leftists are getting more violent and demanding all the time. They want something we Americans cannot become. Scary times for the Republic.
