Unfortunately this is the system we have. Favors are traded, jobs are given out, cash is given for campaign contributions -- in exchange for influence in Washington.
Facebook employees, including some at the top of its corporate pyramid, have helped fill Schumer’s campaign coffers – and he’s returned the favor by carrying water for the social media giant in Congress, according to a recent report.
And Alison Schumer, the senator’s youngest of two daughters, works as a Facebook product marketing manager – which pays an average of $160,000, according to Glassdoor.com.

Last week, it emerged that Schumer has been a strong advocate of Facebook on Capitol Hill. He pressured Sen. Mark Warner (D- Virginia), one of Facebook’s most aggressive challengers in Congress, to back off from investigating the company, according to The New York Times.
In at least one instance, the company also relied on Mr. Schumer, the New York senator and Senate Democratic leader. He has long worked to advance Silicon Valley’s interests on issues such as commercial drone regulations and patent reform. During the 2016 election cycle, he raised more money from Facebook employees than any other member of Congress, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Mr. Schumer also has a personal connection to Facebook: His daughter Alison joined the firm out of college and is now a marketing manager in Facebook’s New York office, according to her LinkedIn profile.
I said last week... government gets private people and private industry to do the things that they Constitutionally can't do.
And?
Where's the corruption?
Is he the only politician to have ever gotten a donation from Big Business?
The only one to have had a kid benefit from a lobbying relationship?
I have no love nor any use for Schumer, and I say this as someone who used to live in his congressional district (he spoke at my daughter's HS graduation), but I'm not seeing how this is any different than what is done in D.C. every single day.
If you are pointing at this as an example of something that needs to change, I wholeheartedly agree, but there's a snowball's chance of that ever happening, so...
I was reading about Obama's foreign donations vs McCain's total transparency about his donations. It is indeed disturbing. Union money I can understand, but foreign contributions? No way. That we can agree on. Can we also agree that if it's discovered that foreign money flooded into the RNC that it would be equally as unacceptable? Or do we have a double standard here BentBow?
I voted for McCain over Obama, by the way. At the time I was more worried about him being part of the machine politics in Chicago and carrying that over into the presidency. If Obama did indeed get away with something nefarious should we excuse that same despicable behavior for the RNC and Trump? Or should we hold their feet to the fire and their drain the swamp platform? I vote for fire.
