President Trump recently awarded (posthumously) the 'Presidential Medal of Freedom' to Elvis. A music critic for the Washington Post said that it was racist.

As Carl Cannon points out at the above RCP link, Trump also pardoned boxer Jack Johnson, who had been the first person convicted under the Mann Act of 1910 (anti-prostitution law). But Johnson's only real "crime" was that his girlfriend was white. Over 50 years of supposed champions of civil rights, from LBJ to Obama, declined to pardon Johnson. Trump did it after hearing from his pal Sly Stallone, who evidently is an avid boxing fan.

Even for that pardon, as Cannon points out, Trump was accused of racism. Huh?

Look, I am far from a fan of Trump. But I have to call out race-card idiocy, even if it is coming from my own side. At some point we Democrats have to knock it off.

Classic WaPo race huckstering. Only the crooked MSM would turn an award to Elvis in to a Trump is a racist Derangemennt bashing.

Odd this. I thought that Bezo had reeled in the more crazed people at WaPo a bit. I guess one got loose.

So now Elvis a symbol of white supremacy?

Good job, WaPo. I suggest Santa Claus as your next target.

Sure, Trump is racist, but I regard his choices, including Elvis, only as an example of his being shallow and self-serving.

Also an interesting note from the RCP piece by Carl Cannon. Evidently Trump is pals with Sly Stallone, who informed him of the Jack Johnson case.

Quote:
After Stallone started hobnobbing with Trump, he was hit with a 30-year-old charge of sexual assault by a Santa Monica woman. The corroborating witnesses she cited didn’t back her up, so no charges were filed – but his name was linked to the #MeToo movement anyway.
So not only was there racism involved here, there was some sexism too!

Not everything is about racism. It can sometimes be about sexism instead.

Why do you call everyone who's opinion you don't like a Leftist ?

Disliking Trump does not make one a Leftist - more likely it makes them a patriot.

You have to admit that invariably these false accusations come from the left side of the aisle. I am on the left side myself, but I can admit reality.

Also the chances that the WAPO music critic is not left are slim & none, and Slim just left the building.
