So if you live in France now what's the big deal?

I was one of those retail workers. I missed my last Christmas with my grandpa because I had to work Christmas Eve last year. I haven't had a family Thanksgiving since 2014.

No, you missed it because you chose to. No one forced you.

If you live in France why do you care what the USA does with their retailers?

Many people need to work on holidays to earn money. Some stores need to be open for people to buy things.

Wait....getting gas is essential, but getting food and other necessities is not essential? So you hve to deal if you forget to buy the corn for turkey day but you must get the gas to drive to grandmas house even if you forget to get the gas earlier? This makes no sense.

Can’t you work for another retailer?

This is sort of a cop out response, while I disagree with the OP I am sick of this nonsense.

No one forced you too, just your desire to not be homeless, and lose your kids. But...nothing FORCED you too. Beyond that.

So when preparing Thanksgiving dinner an essential ingredient was forgotten, then what?
Most people don't mind working holidays. I know when I was still on the job I picked and chose which holidays I wanted to work and which ones I didn't. Some holidays, due to scheduling, I was forced to work and when I did my family and I made the best of it.
We don't need the government to step in and control who, when, what, where and how our holidays are celebrated. Not everyone celebrates the same holidays, so then what?
