Who are these people who seek to vilify everything that we boomers learned as children?
This is not a liberal or conservative issue. This is a fringe group who are insecure about their intellect and constantly need to think up new ideas to shore up their illusion of intellect. They don't mind attacking things that the rest of hold dear, because many of them have multiple national loyalties. This is what Judge Bork called "the chattering class".
I've got news for you. The Boomers started this entire anti tradition, anti American, WHITE GUILT crap. They are rejecting their own upbringing. It came out of the anti Vietnam War movement by vilifying anything American. They made it CHIC to hate your own country. It is not a fringe movement. It is mainstream Media, Education, Corporate America, and Government.
Pfffft. The modern Thanksgiving is yet another holiday that requires women spend days cleaning, organizing, shopping, and cooking while men sit around on their butts waiting to be served. And don't even try to deny it. You all know it's true.
Well, out west it was the Spanish that killed off the Indians that didn't succumb to their religion. We all have a sorted past, and as descendants, we celebrate the courage and the will to survive. Most of the time it's not pretty.
I do think the teacher should be taking into account their age and processing abilities. 3rd grade isn't old enough to share the "truth" yet, and that's not hiding it, it doesn't take a rocket science to know what 3rd graders will do with the "scary side of Thanksgiving" information. Won't be fun around 9 pm on a school night. lol
They'll know soon enough when they can process it. If you want to teach them something of value in 3rd grade have a fundraiser for those in need. Sounds like a bitter teacher, we all know the type. Ugh.
Unemployment is at a 49 year low. Why not spread that news instead. Should be a good holiday season.

As it never happened, removed from memory and school history books. Social dems are using a 'holocaust denier' strategy, updated for American culture and history. From the Taliban and isis destroyining offending statues, ussr destroying churches and monuments, to democrats attacking our history and culture, same story different day. Thanksgiving has always been a fond remembrance of the English pioneers who built what would one day become the United States of America. So I guess it was inevitable, in this postmodern age, that the holiday would come under assault. Here PBS Newshour puts its seal of approval on a "growing movement" that is encouraging elementary school teachers to vilify the early settlers, stressing the diseases they brought and the massacres they committed.
At 33:00, a Colorado teacher tell her kids, "So, are you guys ready to have your minds blown? So if you guys can take one thing away from social studies in 3rd grade, I want you to take away, the Pilgrims overtook the Native Americans and took everything that they had worked so hard for."
Apparently this is the current mainstream liberal view of Thanksgiving.
It's about stuffing your face with food and watching football.

Same here. And so will all the little minions trashing the holiday, the country and its citizens. Those same little minions will take the day off of work or school if both are closed, and will take the time and half if they're working. And those same little minions will sit around the table trying to make small talk with their families. Shut up you idiots and pass me a drumstick.

To all the men out there who are spending their morning on C-D bitching about the politics of Thanksgiving, here's a suggestion: put down the keyboard and go give your wives, mothers, and daughters a helping hand in the kitchen.
You sound incredibly bitter.
Maybe your family's tradition is to allow the men to lie about while the gals slave over a hot stove all day, but most families actually share the effort. My husband is already in the kitchen today, prepping food. Since you are online posting yourself, my feeling is that you are probably exaggerating the misogyny of the day.
Hope everyone can manage to have a great day. It’s really quite easy if you put opining and complaining to the side, and concentrate on positive happy things instead.
And very few will stop and think about the labor that went into putting that food on the table while they're stuffing their faces: the people who farmed the turkeys, green beans, and potatoes, those who harvested, transported, and stocked them at the local grocery store. A few men might stop stuffing their faces long enough to thank the women who spent the day preparing the delicious feast before they all head off to the family room in their tryptophan coma to watch some sports while a woman or two treks back into the kitchen to pack up the leftovers and wash a mountain of dishes. Do I have a bad attitude about this holiday? Yeah, I do. I love my family, but I've now been in the kitchen for a couple of hours, and there's been not a stir from upstairs yet. Rest assured, though, that soon they'll stumble into the kitchen looking for something to eat and then stumble out again to act like slugs until the appointed hour. So you all continue your bitching and moaning about the politics of Thanksgiving, but maybe between posts, you could drag your sorry butts off the couch and offer to provide some help to the cook.
How times change. Just three years ago we were told the Pilgrims were refugees and the message was to be generous to the next wave of refugees.
The narrative changes depending on the liberal agenda du jour.
