Let's say the reporting of false hate crimes went up, that does not negate the increase in authentic reports of hate crimes. It sounds like you think the FBI is 'fake' but find a random website authentic.

These graphs chart reports of fake hate crimes over time. The early reports (1979 thru 1994) are from Laird Wilcox's book 'Crying Wolf' (PDF). From then on, most reports are from online news sources. Because the site depends on the media, this data cannot be said to show the actual velocity of hate crime hoaxes, and definitely not the ratio of fake to real hate crimes.
