So what? Then the people will either find some other job (that pays a living wage) or they will be entitled to unemployed benefits and have the luxury to look for other work.

What happens to so many people is they get trapped. Walmart doesn't pay them a living wage but they're stuck there because it eats up all their time.

No one in the USA this day and age should work for $8 an hour. NO ONE.

.
Other stores are automating also.

Cashiers and stock boys, two biggest retail subsets, will be 80-90% gone this decade.

The issue these people have is their Every Day Low Skill Sets.

168 hours in a week. Plenty of time.

2 relatives are working 45-50 hrs/week, and going to school for Masters at night. Where there is personal initiative, there is a way.

They should try to do it online if they can.

Good for your relatives. That is not the standard we should hold the average man to in society, however. Those with drives and motivations will naturally rise to the top but those who don't have such drives - we just don't discard. We take care of them (apartment, food, health care, some basic items) because we're supposed to be civilized.

Right Americans, civilized?

Oh hell no. You did not just suggest that people take ownership of their own lives and try to advance themselves?

In other words we enable them to be underachievers and reward them for it while punishing the folks who actually stepped up. Yeah I can see how that would be conducive towards building a great society.

Seriously? My job is not to take care of people without drive. Life is challenging, and those that make the effort survive just fine. I worked hard for what I have. I pay the price daily and I am a better person for it.

Their relatives can take care of them, if they care to.

As a gov't, we should not be involved in overcoming their lack of self reliance.
