Yea, those people did the wrong thing. Unless they are actually engaging the shooter at that moment, taking out a gun and running around is the worse thing to do. Cops coming to the scene, hell other people with guns, have no idea is who, just there is someone who is shooting. They are looking for someone with a gun.
As for the commands, hell, in the maybe slight panic, adrenaline filled actions, it is possible he would not even hear the cops or think they are talking to him.
Here is the issue with that. Active shooter and you draw, you aren't going to put it away because there is a shooter there. Put it away, it takes time to pull it out, aim etc. You might as well not have it to begin with.
I understand why they had weapons out. Not the safest situation which is why having random people with guns might be a blessing or a curse depending on situation.
The problem is either
1. Too many guns
2. Improper that assessment
You can't have an armed society and cops popping the first {black) guy with a piece they see. One is the other has to change.
This is part of the beauty of bring a nation armed to its teeth. First it's "why weren't there good guys with a gun to stop the bad guys," then it's "why did the good guy have a gun when the police got there." It's not like this is a football play with timing and a referee. I would expect more of this.
They wont get charged. Regardless what cameras and witnesses show, they will say he didnt comply fast enough.
Their upper management want to discourage black people from legally owning guns.
They will use any excuse in the book to avoid conviction.
Also, the NRA will say nothing as usual.
This is the 2nd event in about a week during which cops shoot a good black guy with a gun.
This is a racial issue.
We can't know this yet until we find out the race of the shooting officer and then ignore it if he's not white.
Or downplay it if it's in an area that is fully democratic.
These points are reality, my personal views are that police should be held accountable for egregious acts and should ALL be wearing bodycams at all times.
That being said, I'm a realist. Did you protest Laquan McDonnel? You even recognize the name?
