In what fantasy do you live in that you are blaming this on the person who is not at the steering wheel?

something else i haven't seen mentioned yet - all these closings involved plants producing cars, which are in low demand.
You seem to assume all skills are fungible.

Let’s assume GM was vulnerable due to other causes that just makes the tariffs hurt more.

Ford was the one automaker from the Big Three that adapted. GM and Chrysler did not. For decades, GM/Chevy built ugly cars that didn't last and relied on technology. The Japanese surpassed them. GM thought it could rely on customers who would simply be loyal to GM products even when there were superior products out there, often for less cash. Only recently did they finally make the sorts of changes that could have made them competitive.

GM is not hurting currently. They are trying to be ahead of the next downturn. They are eliminating sedans like Ford.

Silly question: what if the current popular tall wagon SUV takes a dive?

Default GM to close 5 North American factories and slash over 14,700 jobs

The stock market has taken a dive over the past few weeks, too.

I don't like the looks of this. Not one little bit.

I have numerous family members dependent on a strong economy.

Also, the annual study on reshoring looks like reshoring is slowing down the last couple years.

Makes sense, people prefer Japanese cars and American trucks. Ford will also phase out most of it's car lineup.
