Newt Gingrich? Karl Rove? Tea Party Takeover? Steve Bannon and Koch Brothers? Sean Hanmity and Rush Limbaugh?

Sold their collective souls to the devil?
Bannon, yes, but the Tea Party and Koch’s are philosophically much closer to Reagan than Trump. Gingrich just a man who goes with the flow.

At one time we had two somewhat sane parties.

True. My parents were both fairly hardcore democrats back in the 1960s and 70s. I recall a lot of bashing of Republicans from them over the early years of my life. My father is still alive, and if you mention the democrat party to him now, he just shakes his head. He's straight ticketed for Republicans for at least 15 years, even though he still doesn't like republicans--that's how bad he has come to hate what the democrat party has become.

Ultimately, both parties are dysfunctional at this point.

Considering that the Democratic Party is the party of the KKK and your parents were Democrats, does this mean your parents were racists?

Not that I'm aware of.

What does Buchananism entail? For that matter, are you speaking of James Buchanan or Pat Buchanan?

Pat, the one who favors limited immigration and trade. The paleo-conservative.

At least he based it on the audience's thoughts on an issue; the Left bases in on race and gender.

The same way the Democrats went from not tolerating religious extremist who expects Burkas and silent wives to loving Muslims in Burkas in the Women's March and backing a religion that would deny same-sex marriage any time of the day.

Things change. A lot has changed in both parties.
