It's all there: the ultra-conservatives' callous attitudes toward poor people, brown people, foreign people, different people. Disregard for natural environment, safe drinking water, etc. Insistence on imposing "values" on everyone. Focus on the top tier of earners and on corporate profits.

So, yeah, you're absolutely right. It did start before Trump. He's just shouting louder and louder about it than his predecessors.

You're probably right. I doubt there's really much "screaming" that goes on in the OP's workplace. I wonder if it isn't just run-of-the-mill water-cooler talk that has the OP's knickers in a twist.

And the ultra conservative gang is doing the same. The issue is with both ends of the spectrum.

Exactly.

Although I wouldn't include "the press" as one entity. Online and TV journalism certainly are more shrill than in years past, but there's more to "the press" than CNN and Breitbart.

Critical thinking skills give people the ability to follow the ebb and flow of a discussion.

No, following the ebb and flow of a discussion only requires paying attention. Analyzing the value, and weighing the merits of a particular opinion or position requires critical thinking skills.

Let’s test your grasp of this skill .... given that there are indeed conservative black people, conservative poor people, conservative foreign people ... how does that jibe with your narrative? How do you reconcile this perception that conservatives are hostile toward “these” various groups of people, when there are conservatives among them? When Thomas Sowell looks in the mirror, does he not notice he’s a black man? Hmmm ... interesting huh? He’s just an Uncle Tom, I guess?

The first place to begin, when embarking upon the arduous task of thinking critically, is to begin by analyzing the right versus wrong of a particular matter. That’s black and white, yes and no type stuff. Now we all know that life isn’t always black and white ... often there are several shades of gray. But, sometimes, it is a matter of black and white, yes and no, right and wrong. Sometimes (quite consistently among liberals) there are gray areas created where they don’t belong ... this is called rationalizing, or trying to make your opinion fit when it doesn’t fit at all.

Keen critical thinking skills require a grasp of depth and context ... rather than surface level thinking, and knee jerk emotional appeal and response. Let’s take a black and white topic like “theft” .... for most people, I would hope ... stealing is wrong, rather than right. With me? Ok, so assuming you agree that some criminal that steals your car is a thief and theft is wrong .... what about a mother who steals money to buy food for her starving child? Is she a thief? The answer is yes, absolutely ... she stole money, therefore she is by definition a thief.

The non-critical thinking emotional response might give her a pass .... after all, she’s a mother, and it’s understandable for a mother to do whatever necessary to feed her child, right? On the surface, many might see that as a reasonable excuse, even though ithey would be dead wrong. Now when I declare that dead wrong ... you could respond by saying I have a callous nature, dismissive of the plight this woman and her starving child is suffering. If she is black or brown, you might immediately declare my position based on being a racist, as you liberals are so quick to do. But you see, at a deeper level, what you FAIL to consider is the possibility that the stolen money prevented the owner of that money from feeding HER CHILD. So, who has the ONLY legitimate right to that money ... the woman who worked to earn it for her child, or the woman who stole it to feed her child? The answer is painfully simple.

Now, if you really do possess this skill of critical thinking, then you will have no trouble at all applying this exact principle to the topic of illegals violating our borders, and how they cannot use the excuse of poor living conditions or dangerous living conditions, or lack of economic opportunity as a legitimate reason to enter our country illegally. Everyone has a reason for doing what they do ... the car thief needed a car ... the money thief needed to feed her child ... the illegal immigrant wanted a better life .... everyone has a reason ... but having a reason doesn’t make it right.

If you just can’t make the connection ... then you might want to wait until you can, before discussing critical thinking skills.

Critical Thinking : the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgement.

I should perhaps include the definition of “objective” too, as this seems also to be a weak area for liberals:

Objective: (of a person or their judgement) not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts.

Another incoherent statement having no basis in reality. Given that the man has been under constant attack, day in and day out since he announced his candidacy... and ongoing after winning the election .... what does he have to gain by enduring all of this?

He’s is a billionaire, who wanted for nothing ... was always popular among the media, and people in general ...
living a life few could even dream of living .... so he trades that for this constant abuse and disrespect, because he’s selfish? That makes absolutely no sense at all. None.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense should at least realize that his intentions are good, even if you disagree with his policies, or feel they aren’t helpful.

As George Orwell said ... in a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

What you meant to say is, "... screaming about INVADERS being treated unfairly..."

If someone came kicking and pounding on your door demanding to come into your house, how "fairly" would you treat them? Would you open the door and invite them into your house?
