Don't we wish. But Mexican's aren't as expensive and corporate America doesn't care if they decimate the middle class so they won't.

While Trump was a fool to make such stupid promises to the rust belt folks; they were fools for buying it.

This is a problem that looms large for this country - Republican OR Democrat and I do not know how it can be stopped.

If one ask any of the people in the Rural Areas of Mississippi, what a CDO (Collateralize Debt Obligation) is, or a CDS (Cedit Default Swap) or even what is meant by Derivatives... they would not know... and they certainly would not know... how or why a CEO is responsible to Stock Holder, rather than being responsible to manage a productive company and control and manage debt... The CEO are more concerned with what a stock ticker reads, and do not care that it's based on "Speculative Gambling to boost trade activity for the sake of claiming value increases, when true fact is that companies can't even begin to meet the production and sales to justify the stock ticker price. then ask them, why is it allowed in America for the CEO to also serve as Chairman of the Board.... (When or IF they figure these things out, they might learn how and why they are continually fleeced and they vote to support the continual fleecing of the American populations).

Additional the terms "Variable Rate Loans" convinced the Financial Industry, that any type of "catch word" could be used to "fleece the people", as well a set people up, for their own property to be taken over by Mega Financial Institution, providing the Institution tax write off, and they could later re-sell the property for a hefty profit.

GM paid back the money it was loaned, and they produced good units and profit for America, but this Administration had no thought to go to GM and work with them on how they would develop for the next decade. Now... they want to attack GM, as if they did not know that GM had to consider modernization for the new era of marketable units.

Trump spend time everyday, attacking something and anything... Its no way that he has a understanding or grip on anything else, because his primary function is attacking and griping and whining about someone or something and assaults upon and against our government organizations. It's no different than an employee at working bitching and griping about everything and everyone. Any person who proclaims themselves "smarter than professionals" who have invested their life in particular and specific fields, is already showing their expansive level of ignorance and ego wrapped together, which produces "Profound Stupidity".

One can't be an advocate for Free Markets and Be Against Global Markets, at the same time. This is the self contradicting idiocy of the Right Wing Mentality.

Have you ever worked a manufacturing job? Ever toured the inside of a General Motors (or any other car maker, for that matter) plant?

To be fair anyone in office would have done the same.

Because it means expensive retooling & new lines, and the the cars would cost more than made-in-Mexico and not be competitively priced.

You must have read fake news at the time. The Big Three flew to DC and met with Bush and other major Commerce and Banking officials.

"Dec 19, 2008 - President George W. Bush stepped in Friday to keep America's auto industry afloat, announcing a $17.4 billion bailout for GM and Chrysler,"

Not that I think it was a bad thing. GWB and his lack of knowledge (Trump is much worse, but that's another story) destroyed the economy....and we can at least give him credit for admitting so in the final months of his term and starting on the road to recovery.

Color me a BIG FAN, in the end, of all the bailouts and stims and free interest rates.....ONLY AS COMPARED TO THE ALTERNATIVE. The alternative was so bad that it may have just wiped out most of our equity (normal Main Street people)....

But, yeah, I know all about false equiv. and fake news. If reality doesn't fit your world view you have to make up a different reality that does.
