Who is "the media"? NBC, ABC, CNN, Fox News? PBS? Breitbart? National Enquirer? News programs with Lester Holt (NBC) or Shepherd Smith (Fox). Or opinion shows like Maddow, Hannity and Matthews? Fluff like "Fox and Friends"?

There's no monolithic media, so yes, I deny that "the media" is trying to turn the public against Trump.

The fake news media is the enemy of the people is what was said..NOT the free press.

People south of the border are bringing drugs, they are bringing rape is what was said..NOT "Mexicans are rapists."

watch, pay attention and learn these subtle changes they do to misrepresent things to fit their bias and narrative.

Watch the video. At about 50 seconds, he clearly states "they are rapists". Now who's lying?

I've had to watch international and local news to get real news because it seems our cable news is all about Trump, Trump and more Trump. From his hair to his kids. This is a huge difference from how they covered presidents before now.

I know they've had to lose followers because of it, but maybe they're gaining others who just love or love to hate Trump to replace us previous viewers.
watching international news is virtually a must to be informed.

Most of the US public don't. I have heard my fellow Americans saying the stupidest things due to their complete utter ignorance of the greater world around us...

so maybe it is not the worst thing if folks watch international news more... it might even help avoid yet another war..

Look, they know it is true, but they don't like to admit publicly that Trump called Mexicans rapists because they want their votes...

Trump is a bad man, and even his supporters know it, but they don't like to admit it publicly.

Is your argument that reporting what Trump says and does is a plot by the media to turn people against him?
It is indeed a strange argument. trump was created by the media. We wouldn't have an illegitimate "President" if it weren't for the media. I think anything short of adulation is considered anti-trump with the OP. Shrug...

Pure BS, and you know it.

You mean by reporting all the crazy **** Trump does?

Here’s a novel idea, how about blaming the guy that’s doing all that crazy **** instead of those reporting it?! Is that too much to ask?

The press is informing the public about the government that the people elected. For a representative democracy to thrive while safeguarding individual liberties, it is essential that the people know what’s going on in the government they elect

In the days after the Revolution, our Founding Fathers understood human nature and how precious and fragile is our liberty. That’s why the First Amendment, including its guarantee of freedom of the press, merited the No. 1 position when the founders added the Bill of Rights to the new Constitution.

Press freedom has seen dark days before and politicians do look for ways to control the messages that reach the public and they do try to suppress journalists who ask inconvenient questions. That’s human nature, especially the nature of ambitious people who reach positions of power.

Fortunately, the checks and balances of our system usually prevail.

But things feel a bit scarier at present and it is not because of our journalists and their reporting.

With a president who is waging a reckless campaign to brand journalists as “enemies of the people” and discredit as “fake news” anything that doesn’t make him look good, should we not be questioning this administration with OP's question?

We are in a time where we need to remember how important freedom of the pess really is. Donald Trump’s attacks on the press and his efforts to blame “the media” for a host of problems is a new ugly level that really is an assault on our very own democracy.

In an Ipsos poll from last summer almost half — 48 percent — of Republicans agree with Trump’s assertion that “the news media is the enemy of the American people.”
Alarmingly, 43 percent of Republicans think the president should be able “to shut down news outlets engaged in bad behavior.” This is troubling.

For free speech to endure, we must protect the rights of people who say things we find abhorrent. And for a free press to continue working to keep our government open and responsive, we must allow journalists to function even when they are scrutinizing and criticizing those we favor.

Did those who now think the press is the enemy feel that way when news reports repeated false claims about Obama’s birthplace, or during all the media attention to Hillary Clinton’s emails? Would they be as willing to let the president shut down news outlets if those determining what is “bad behavior” were Democrats?

Freedom of the press, like our other essential liberties, is more important than any individual or party. Ultimately, it protects us all.

It’s often said that one of the first actions of a would-be dictator is to suppress the free press.

Safeguarding the liberties that make our country great is not easy. It requires defending those liberties despite the fluctuation of politics.

Can't blame the media. Trump operates way off the radar screen like no other President in the history of this country has done. The constant lies about everything. His contempt for the American democratic institutions of government.

The constant attacks on our intelligence agencies and the Department of Justice. The use of our military as props to make himself look like the Commander in Chief when in fact he denigrates the leader of the Navy Seals and a decorated Navy pilot who was shot down and endured years as a POW.
