Actress Anne Hathaway penned an emotional post this week slamming the U.S. government for using tear gas at the U.S.-Mexico border as a “monstrous use of force” against migrants.
“My country gassed children,” the Oscar winner wrote on Instagram. “There are no words for my horror.”
Her post Tuesday included a now-famous photo by Reuters photojournalist Kim Kyung-Hoon that showed single migrant mother Maria Lila Meza Castro and her two daughters trying to escape tear gas used by U.S. border patrol agents against a group of migrants who tried to illegally cross the border over the weekend.
Ms. Hathaway said the government’s actions deserved public “condemnation, shame, and rage.”
Remember when the Conservatives at least pretended to be the party of 'Family Values?' Now they say, "F this little B." Or, maybe like our "President,"Grab her by the P$ssy."
It has been discovered that whole scene was staged. Of course that wasn't brought to you by CNN.
Why do people let celebrities speak for them heck they are way out of touch with the average working middle class person and they push their own agendas.
Plus here in Canada we tear gassed, Beat and shot rubber bullets at our own Country Men, Women Children when we had a Hockey Riot in Vancouver in 1994 and 2011.
Yah. If it had only been women & children facing off against BP @ the checkpoint, they might not have used tear gas. We might have simply rounded everybody up for a bus ride back to the caravan campground. But if BP personnel were under attack with thrown rocks & people trying to get past the wire & barriers, tear gas was the least objectionable method of repelling border jumpers. (& BP reported detaining 40 people or so on the US side, who apparently got through the barriers.) So there's that.
I'm glad no one was killed, on their side nor ours. The caravan people can demand asylum, but they still need to comply with our procedures. Procedures which are designed to reject most pleas for asylum. & certainly hurling rocks @ BP personnel & trying to force passage into the US is not going to help their chances of getting asylum in the US @ all.
Hathaway is a good actress, I've enjoyed most of her work. & she's to be commended for having enough fellow feeling as to want to help people who've travelled all that distance to get here. But to control who comes into the US, we have to control who comes in. We can't change the rules midstream - there are individuals who have waited for years for their opportunity to enter the US legally. We can't go back on our processes when there are people waiting for their turn, as they're supposed to do.
