Statistically speaking, guns save far more lives than they take. Your anecdote is pretty much meaningless.
Funny thing about statistics. All the stats in the world simply will not allow me to know my father or two see my two friends again. Sure, statistically there is someone out there that can express the recipocal of the events that happened in my life. But I have yet to meet or specifically hear from them. So, stats as you state them do not motivate me at all. Stats also claim how unlikely someone is to win the lotto yet time and time again we hear of winners. Statistically, in my life, your stats are crap.

In a stats world, no one would allow a kid around their parents, lol, as that is who most likely will kill them.
Maybe you should contact the police chief and tell him what you know, why she isn't legal, since he claims everything about it is legal.
She did not have permit for the guns.
Also, when the roommates discovered the guns they were not locked and secure as Massachusetts' law demands.
Sounds like she made arranged to keep them locked and secured, and apparently has filed an application for a permit, but at the time the roommates found her firearms, the situation was not legal.
Implied consent under law. By leaving her door unlocked while she was away, she gave her roommates implied consent for them to enter her room. "Her" living space notwithstanding.
As a homeowner, would YOU leave your front door wide open while you weren't at home?

So if a door isn't locked a burglary didn't occur? Is this backwards day? If the roommate was found in possession of her firearm the RM would have been in big trouble. If they even picked up the handgun it would be considered in possession.

Lol exactly. It's absolute insanity.
But...but the cash register drawer was open!!!!! I thought it was ok to take the money!
Totally. Get their own place. Easy. Solved. I wouldn't allow that here. Renting a room from me? No guns. Go elsewhere.
What if they used a gun as part of their job, be it LE, security, etc. ?
