School dress codes are all the rage these days, in particular banning girls from wearing any tight, sexy, revealing clothing. This appeals to both conservatives and liberals. Conservatives don't think it is Christian for girls to dress that way. In an earlier, better era liberals would have been in favor of girls dressing as they please but today the feminist left thinks girls shoud tone their dress. Part of this is because liberals are pro-Islam and female modesty is the most important thing to Muslims.

I for one totally oppose these bans. Girls should dress however they like. We need to quit having the mindset that girls looking sexy is bad. This is part of the backwards **** shaming mindset. When I was in school in the 70s and 80s there was no dress code (within reason) we were a much freerer, more advanced country back them.

I would say any country that doesn't try to control the way females dress is superior to what we have become. I would guess Russian girls are free to wear many of the clothes to school that American girls are now banned from wearing. If so Russia ia superior to the neo-puritan U.S...at least when it comes to this topic.

Whew. So many inaccuracies.

Conservatives don't think it is Christian? And are all Conservatives Christian? Liberals would have been opposed? (No, many of us like dress codes.)

Feminists are pro Muslim? No, we oppose black shrouds with slits for the eyes. We oppose the way their women are treated.

No dress codes back in the 70s means more freedom in general?

We had dress codes for both boys and girls in the 50s/60s so there would be less competition about clothing. It worked. It resulted in more respect for school, better work habits better grades too. No one was distracted by who was wearing the latest style.

Neatness and appropriate styles are a good thing. No, Russia is not superior because of dress codes.

My GD started a new Parochial HS this yr, sent me a pic of her in uniform, White blouse, short tartan skirt (hiked up), black knee Sox. No wonder the boys look like they have a role of Quarters in their pocket.

If I had a say, they would be wearing Dockers for pants.

The purpose of school is to prepare people for the workplace. Most workplaces have dress codes. Schools should have dress codes.

It's the double standard that irks me. "Girls can't wear X that because it looks sexy," but "Guys can wear anything they like." It carries the implication that men are sexual deviants who can't control their urges to rape women unless they are covered up from head to toe (and maybe not even then).

The following links have the pros/cons to school uniforms:

I do agree with having a dress code. However, it being too strict or too lenient is a valid concern. However, certain clothing shouldn't be worn by kids of a certain age. A 10-year-old should not be wearing a shirt with an teen anime girl in a "Maxim"-style pose. That is more for people 16+ to wear.

“ School dress codes are all the rage these days” ?

Most public schools have had some semblance of Dress Code going back to at least the 1950’s.

One challenge made it to the SCOTUS who ruled public schools have the right to limit student expression when there is legitimate concern the expression will be disruptive.

Vittana.org also depicts pros/cons of other socio-political issues like capitalism, communism, socialism, various types of health care, etc.
