Please don't read my comment as criticism. It's simply an observation. The readings and activities that go hand-in-hand with worship are no longer familiar to a large number of Americans because so many simply don't attend church any longer. That's not about faith. It's about a cultural shift that has removed regular church attendance from the center of what it means to be community.
Oh, I didn't, not at all. There is, however, a big difference in the order of worship at an Episcopal church as opposed to a Baptist one, for example, and that's what I was referring to.
You saw that Trump was sitting alone at the end of the row of seating?
I eventually realized that they had seated presidents in order of seniority/recency. But to all appearances, it looked as though Trump was on the end because everyone else refused to sit next to him.
I assume you all saw Trump staring ahead, stone-faced. Others sang the hymns and joined in the responsive readings. He didn't. The appearance was as if he was forced to be there by his staff, but he was determined to pout and remain indifferent.
I'm guessing that he never before had to sit through something so long, absolutely silent, with nothing at all about him.
To all appearances when viewed through the liberal rose-colored glasses.
You "eventually" realized that they were seated in order. Wonder when you'll "eventually" realize that he was being respectful?
Why must he always sit slumped over, like he's on the toilet?
He's really disliked by all the past presidents. That's why they all went from chatting in a social fashion before the service to sitting there, not saying a word once he showed up.
I do think he was mad that Bush Jr brought Michelle Obama some candy.

If you watch Trump he sits like that, leaning forward, a lot. Same with his arms crossed. At this stage of life it's likely just habit.

Because etiquette dictates that when the sitting President is seated (as he was); the service begins and the social chit chat stops.

Get a clue, they were seated in order. And, many of the Bushes went to the White House to visit with the Trumps and their old staff (no cameras allowed). Seriously, a former President has a funeral and some of us have to pick everyone apart. Shameful.

Trump is a bump on a log wherever he isn't in the spotlight. He's never evolved past the age of a petulant ten year old.
When I saw Melania walk in I thought of an old saying..."nervous as hooker in a cathedral."
