We need basic manners and civility. I don't think we should be rude or whatever. We also shouldn't be slaves to the PC police either. Need some happy middle ground somewhere.
The world would be a better place only if people actually took the time to care about other people. Is offense sometimes taken too far, sure, but taking others’ feelings into account and exercising a little empathy for others is never a negative thing no matter how silly you may think it is.
That said, no one can force you to care. You are free to be an *******. When people call you on it you have a choice...don’t care or, ironically, get your panties in a wad.
I'm a firm believer in respect, courtesy, and consideration for others. Nothing wrong with being polite and able to get along with others.
But, these folks who are offended by everything, including the opinions of others, and insist on being an activist who goes ballistic about other opinions, beliefs and philosophies, suck. THEY need to be stamped out.
I'm a big boy and I can form my own opinions. I don't need you flashing green and red lights based on your indoctrination. And I don't need you having a meltdown when you asked for my opinion and I gave it to you. Don't ask if you can't act like an adult.
The more that people complain about being offended, the less I care about people being offended.

I used to come right out and ask people: "If you didn't want my opinion, why did you ask for it?" whenever they got upset at my opinion after asking me what I thought. They hated that question even more than they hated my opinion. People don't like being called out on that...which is why I did it. Put that mess right back at your feet where it belongs, don't even try to throw that at me.
People enjoy being victims. They've been taught that being a victim will get them attention, so they find any and every excuse to be offended and claim victim status.

Yep, that particular response is pretty baffling. If I want someone else's opinion, I don't just assume it is an opinion I like, necessarily--but if I ask, I really do want to know.
People who do that really don't want opinions, they want validation. And yes, the "Why did you ask?" response tends to raise their blood pressure even farther. Sometimes I can't resist, though.
Honestly, imagine if tomorrow every single person on the planet didn't give two craps whether anything they did offended anyone, would that not be way better for everyone since everyone today are such pathetic excuses of excrement?
You have it backward!

People will always offend other people. The problem is when everything anyone else does offends the herd.
Some people are just wrapped too tightly for this World.
The good news is the Earth periodically offers up a plague, a war or a calamity to get rid of them.
But only the "too tightly wrapped ones"? So what are the cool laid back ones doing?
Please be more descriptive, if you have inside news about a plague, I'm all ears.
Just kidding, I am more then just ears.
