I'm sure this was a joke but it really wouldn't surprise me in the least. I heard Trump is considering not having one at all. A coupe of x-presidents have tried that and quickly learned why a CoS is necessary.
There is really a seed of truth in this. One of the difficulties of being COS has apparently been that Trump wants no restricted access for his family, wants to do everything his way, and won't listen to the advice of anyone. This is reportedly the most sparsly populated white houses in recent history, at least partially because Trump thinks he can do everything by himself.
According to a statement from Sen. Mark Meadows office:
“Serving as Chief of Staff would be an incredible honor. The President has a long list of qualified candidates and I know he’ll make the best selection for his administration and for the country.”
Trump is career Kryptonite. He can't get anyone with a future to consider so has to have old has beens like Barr or crooks looking to enrich themselves like Mnuchin.

This. Whoever takes this job knows it's their last job in D.C. Trump is going down hard and he will throw everyone around him under the bus first.
I have no prior experience managing a staff. That's a plus!
I'm not a "Beltway insider," whatever that is. That's a plus!
I don't know White House etiquette or protocols. That's a plus!
I wouldn't be afraid to tell Trump, on an hourly basis, to go fu¢k himself, without fear of being fired. I've been fired before...and if he let me go, there would be no candidates for Chief of Staff left! The White House Squatter would be stuck with me. Hahahahaha!
