Introduced by another Big Apple Democrat legislator, one law would require that all pistol permit applicants turn over passwords so that their social media posts could be scrutinized, for a three-year period. They'd go back one year for their Google, Bing, and Yahoo searches . This would also apply to current permit holders' renewals--every 5 years. And to anyone purchasing another sidearm...or shotgun, or rifle for which permits are NOT required.
After November's mid-terms, which resulted in Democrat control of both chambers, Democrats have been emboldened, and are submitting four new laws, the most controversial of which is the above. Without Republicans who'd successfully pushed back against such laws in the past, their passage is now almost certain, despite complaints from civil liberties groups.
Democrats in NY have made no secret of their desire to make gun ownership prohibitive in this state--via cost or burden. They've already driven gun dealers and manufacturers out of NY.

The only blessing of the leftist takeover of the entire NYS government is that it increases the chance of loony laws being passed, which will be slapped down by the Supreme Court. This will lead to nationally-binding case law.
