The protection is in most part because of the information a President is privy to while he is in office. A lot of damage could be done to the USA - theoretically - if a President or past president were kidnapped.
So whether or not he was convicted of any crimes is irrelevant to the reason for the protection.
He hasn't been charged with anything yet, the wacky left is saying that paying off prostitutes and other women to keep quite is somehow automatically from campaign contribution money. There is absolutely no link to the money he used to pay off these women being from campaign contributions sources.
That's where the disconnect is happening. I'm not a trump fan but I like to see some real hard evidence that that is the case and if it is we have a different story.
These pinheads on the cable news outlets speculate stories and throw around crap without a lick of evidence primary because they suffer from a collective and serious case of TDS.
He won't do prison time. He will pardon himself or Pence would pardon him after he resigns or is impeached. So I think realistically Trump landing in prison is as much a fantasy as Hillary going to prison.
New York State, Florida, Virginia, and Illinois may have other ideas about his suitabilty as an inmate.
Probably true, but he may lose a whole lot or all of his money.
If Trump is indicted in New York, the state can freeze his assets until all of the charges are dealt with. It would have the effect of bankrupting him.
If (or when) Trump is tried and convicted would he have Secret Service protection in prison?
I would imagine he would not be spending any time in general population. Once released the Secret Service would continue to provide protection and I would imagine that would extend to his family. Like it or not this is a national security issue.
So the answer is.....only for 10 years. And he will be the only president facing such a restriction.
Bush passed a law saying ex presidents only get 10 years of protection. Obama signed a new one rescinding that for presidents who finish their term......something that Trump wouldn't do if impeached, thus subject to the 10 year limit.
Trump's financial dealings with Russia and the Saudis are criminal

If (or when) Trump is tried and convicted would he have Secret Service protection in prison? What about his older children?
What an interesting question! I love this!
I wonder what the limit is of protection for extended family. Since Trump brags about his money, maybe he should pay for it.
