No OP...the main reason Trump was elected was to life Putin's sanctions.

^First of all, we DO have a problem and it's Central America.

Second, Mexico's new president might just be helping us with a wall of his own separating Mexico from Central America. Mexico certainly has learned how the problem of massive asylum seekers affects a country.

Obama gave millions to Mexico in an effort to help secure our border because we have a problem securing it. The wall is just another aid. I don't see the issue. Whether it's indeed a wall, or something else it needs to be done, and doing nothing is a bad option.

Optimal would be stopping the reason people are fleeing. Maybe under Trump and the new Mexican president they can address the root of the problem with some of these Central American countries.

And with a senate and house republican MAJORITY from Jan 2017 through Jan 2019, why hasn't that wall been built and paid for by Mexico? Let's say that again. Republican Majority! Conservatives. Trump's base. It doesn't get better than that for a president. It's not often that a president and *both* sides of congress are controlled by one political party. Handwave it away all you want, but it's the truth.

You should be careful when you say things like this, because the Republicans passed a tax break a year ago that doesn't pay for itself, meanwhile the Republican controlled government has increased the deficit from $665 billion the previous year, to $779 billion last year.

Republicans need to stop acting like they are fiscally responsible, that ship sailed years ago.

Also, the majority of Americans don't support the wall. It's a waste of tax payer money that won't be effective.

It's a pet project that Trump wants, so therefore his supporters want it.

So, why are Democrats trying to oppose Trump on this?
Most Americans continue to oppose U.S. border wall, doubt Mexico would pay for it
Most Americans continue to oppose U.S. border wall

You forgot to mention the part about Mexico paying for it. Let us know when that is going to happen.

Do Trump supporters understand that Mr. Trump promised Mexico would pay for said wall? Don't go coming to the tax payers to fund the wall.

Do you really think the miner in WV cares about The Wall? Why? How about the Republicans in NH, VT or Maine? They could care less.

They bought one of his other lies or always vote straight GOP no matter what.

Exit polling in the 2016 shows the economy as the #1 issue, 4X the strength of immigration.

No doubt among TRUMP voters, a minority of the voters and population, that immigration issues were larger. But immigration doesn't mean The Wall. That means having Comprehensive Reform made into law.

For example, Texas should do E-verify. They don't, yet they voted for Trump in droves. Not a single person can explain that to me - why wouldn't Texas want to clamp down on millions of undoc workers?

When you explain that to me I might understand more.

As it stands, it seems like "the wall" is like a cross, deity or some other symbolism and that Republicans are fine with Texas GOPers using millions of undoc immigrants.

To say it in the Texas manner, all hat and no cattle. Prove you have cattle and we'll talk.

You ask if people in most areas of the country care about a wall. In my opinion, most Americans probably don't give it that much thought or haven't in the past but that has changed since Trump put an emphasis on the immigration issue and illegal immigration in particular. He's pushed the issue out front and contrary to popular belief amongst the leftist, globalist, establishment, elites (including establishment Republicans btw), numerous polls show that the vast majority of the country supports aggressive anti-illegal immigration enforcement but they also support limited/reduced legal immigration that is merit based as opposed to any and all being welcomed here. Anywhere from 61% to 78% of the country depending on the particular immigration question being asked supported strong anti-illegal immigration enforcement or limited merit based legal immigration.

I think it's fair to say that a percentage of the supporters of the president's stance on immigration (both illegal and legal immigration) disagree that a wall will be effective or worth the cost the cost to the taxpayer. Others may question the best way to secure our southern border but countless polls show that the overwhelming majority of Republican and Independent voters support the president's overall ideas about legal and illegal immigration. It's only a the Democratic party and those on the left who feel the opposite....ironically so considering many Democratic Senators and House Members sounded a lot like Trump only 5 to 10 years ago. The complete 180 they've done since has coincided with the incredibly massive and scary shift of the Democratic party to the far far left. Having said that, to be totally fair to Democrats, illegal immigration is still a bi-partisan problem and many establishment Republicans are equally guilty of supporting illegal immigration due to the very cheap labor costs it affords them.

Personally, I initially thought the idea of building a wall was impracticable and unrealistic but the more I researched the economic and national security implications of an open border it I now support the building of the wall. Considering the fact that illegal immigration costs the American taxpayer approximately $150 billion and growing a year, a $30 or even $40 billion one time allocation to build a wall makes a lot of sense. Add an ill requiring employers to e-verify employees and beef up border security personnel and end sanctuary city policies and you put a big debt in that $150 billion dollar an year cost

They didn't even have a plan on the table to make Mexico pay for it yet they were ok with the taxpayer funding back then. Kind of a tell all isn't it that this is just about hating on and demonizing Trump no matter what. What an ugly an divided country we have become by these anti-American traitors.

Once again, repeating a lie doesn't make it true. The 2006 bill was for a FENCE not a wall. So stop lying.
