Yep #MAGA

“Apple said on Thursday that it would expand its operations in Austin, Tex., with a new $1 billion campus on the north side of the city that would nearly double the size of the company’s current 6,000-employee work force in the area

Apple had become synonymous with hoarding money overseas after deferring tax payments on its foreign earnings for years. In January, it said that it would increase its spending in the United States substantially after last year’s tax cuts led it to bring back most of the $252 billion it had stashed abroad.

The company said at the time that it planned to invest more than $30 billion in the United States over the next five years and to create 20,000 jobs by expanding its operations and adding a new campus.”

Proof is in the pudding, but this is unquestionably a good thing if it happens.

Well, that's a big win for Texas and especially Austin.

Also noteworthy that Apple built there and not west coast, frankly I think that the cost of living in some of those areas is getting prohibitive over the long-term as well as taxation etc.

Will be an interesting trend to watch in the coming decades.

That is good news that will no doubt be downplayed and Trumps role in it will be left out.

I'd say this is an example of trickle down economics?

celebrating the guv hauling in another $250,000,000,000 from the people is nothing to celebrate. I always forget conservatives love taxes and big gov like their kissing cousin's the D's.

And the proper terminology is "steal" not "return". If it were return it would denote that the govt has first claim on the money of those who rightfully earned/own it.

Your reading comprehension must be terrible, because Trump is mentioned several times in that very article. But by all means, keep playing the conservative victim card.

Apple making such public statements, should hold in the short term given that's a clear signal to shareholders and investors. Now they might change course in another few years, but for now I think we have to take it as extremely real.

Oh, I take it as a very real plan. As you said - who knows what the future holds? Don't count your chickens before they're hatched, etc, etc.

The thread's title is incorrect. Apple isn't paying $250 billion in taxes. It's bringing $250 billion in overseas profits to the U.S.

I am not a trumper or GOP but lots of media outlets simply find the worst story about Trump and beat the story to death all day long like CNN. To pretend Trump gets a fair shake just because the NYT's mentions Trump a few times in this story is disingenuous. This story does not fit the narrative of the left that Trump is 100% bad for the country so I would believe any positive thing Trump has to do with it will be downplayed.
