I do know one thing: I hate it when other white people accuse me of guilt or self-hatred. More on that later, along with the rest.

The openness about disliking Trump may indeed be because you are black. I know I am usually surprised when I meet a black person who likes him, but honestly? That embarrasses the hell out of me, because race-based assumptions of any kind are opposed to everything I hope I believe in.
As a kid I reveled in being a dark-skinned minority living in the ghetto when it came to dealing with liberals/Democrats. I was assumed to be one of their pets and it was always fun to tell them to F off in some way.

Perhaps the only thing I miss about being young, impoverished, and living in the hood.

Wow, I love your candor! Please, share as much as you want. I look forward to your thoughts.

I get it. I totally get where you’re coming from. Honestly, conservative blacks shock the hell out of me, too...only because of the way things are now. (Years ago—pre-Trump—black conservatives made total sense.) I have a hard time understanding the mentality of black folks who defend Trump. I mean, what...??

Shoot, I guess that’s why people always assume I’m anti-Trump. They can’t understand that alternative either. Still, though...I don’t walk up to anyone of any race with the assumption of their political leanings. As much as I don’t get the black Trump supporter, I know they exist...rare though they may be.

I have no idea what strangers or casual acquaintances think of me but for myself, when I meet someone who is obviously well-educated and articulate in this very conservative town---but a college town, I assume that they are not Trump supporters.

I look like the typical Trumper - old, gray haired, need a shave and a haircut, wear a baseball cap from a feed store, drive a pickup truck, etc. I detest the man. Don't judge a book by its cover.

So interesting! I love it.

Thanks for sharing. I live in Northern Virginia, and most of us are very liberal. I see a lot of people who look like what you describe, Ponderosa. I never make assumptions, though, because you never know.

OP, I'm a veteran so I work around veterans all day. Most of them are waiting and they will strike up a conversation usually because one area of the VA may have on Fox News and another area may have on CNN. I was waiting to take care of some business at the VA and an older white guy came up to me and started talking about how disgraceful Trump is and what he is doing to the country. So even though it's a common area, I get interactions like that regularly. I've had the same thing happen numerous times waiting at the airport while CNN is on talking about Trump.

Same! People constantly mention to me how much Trump sucks...again, I’m assuming it’s because of my race. It always makes me chuckle, though, because I hope these people never run into the unicorn black Trump supporter. With me, though, they’ll get nothing but agreement.

The bolded sounds a bit disjointed to me.

Are you saying that a black conservative who doesn't like Trump can no longer consider himself or herself/doesn't have the right to consider himself or herself a conservative because he or she doesn't like/support Trump? (IOW, in late 2018, why can't someone be anti-Trump but still be a black conservative?) Some conservatives, of all different skin tones, don't consider Trump to be truly conservative.

I'm around many people and I've never met any black Trump supporters. I'm sure they exist but a needle in a haystack. I've met black conservatives. They don't support Trump. But it's not shocking because Trump has lost many supporters of all backgrounds.

I voted "People make no assumptions about me", but it might be accurate to say, "They're not entirely sure." I'm a white woman, late 40's, no college degree (I have *some* college, as in 19 credits, but I didn't start attending college classes until I was in my mid-40's), and former military. So if anybody asks me, it's usually a tentative, "So, Indigo, what do you think of Trump....?

A few well-placed f-bombs in my overall reply usually makes it pretty clear I can't stand the man.

I don't tend to go around volunteering the information, but if you ask, I ain't gonna hold back.
