Yes, I understand that there is a one-in-a-million chance of getting GBS from a flu shot. What I am saying is that there is a greater than one-in-a-million chance of getting GBS from the actual flu. Most people get it after having a virus, not after having a vaccine.

The exact cause of Guillain-Barre syndrome isn't known. The disorder usually appears days or weeks after a respiratory or digestive tract infection. Rarely, recent surgery or immunization can trigger Guillain-Barre syndrome. Recently, there have been a few cases reported following infection with the Zika virus.

Guillain-Barre syndrome may be triggered by:

Most commonly, infection with campylobacter, a type of bacteria often found in undercooked poultry
Influenza virus
Cytomegalovirus
Epstein-Barr virus
Zika virus
Hepatitis A, B, C and E
HIV, the virus that causes AIDS
Mycoplasma pneumonia
Surgery
Hodgkin's lymphoma
Rarely, influenza vaccinations or childhood vaccinations

While I don't disagree that many of the anti-science people are liberal, there are just as many, if not more, who are conservative. I really don't think that this particular issue holds any side of the political spectrum. In fact, there are some prominent families in very conservative churches who do the whole back-to-nature thing, and that includes homebirthing, homeschooling, and avoiding medications and vaccines. There are earth-mama liberals who do the same things. I say this as a somewhat-crunchy liberal who doesn't run to get antibiotics for every cough and who homeschools and practiced extended breastfeeding. Among my circle of wooey acquaintances, I'd say there are definitely as many conservatives as liberals.

I got one a few years ago and felt lousy for the rest of the week, at least. I don't think I'll get one.

Veteran Here. While serving, it was an October ritual that ALL personnel get a flu shot compliments of Uncle Sam. After being discharged, I have continued getting my annual flu shot as does the rest of my family. Senior citizen now and get the super dose. Beats the hell out of being sick. I guess the Military felt the same.

2. Q: Can she assure me I won't get the flu if I take the vaccine? A: "No".

At that point, she politely said she "got it" & that if I changed my mind, I could come back if I liked.
Q1. Either your doctor does not know what she's talking about or you misunderstood, more likely the latter. Many healthy young people die from flu.

Q 2: True. NOTHING in health care is 100%.

Q 3: I don't believe that.

Q 4: Again, I don't believe that. https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/10-...od-vaccines/6/

Do you know how bad for how long you'll feel with the flu?

Most Americans also still believe in "God", so there's clearly no limit to what Americans are willing to believe or not believe, based on nothing but what their deluded little minds tell them.

My husband and I don’t get flu shots either. Haven’t been sick for 10 years.

I absolutely loathe anti-vaxxers, and I think vulnerable populations (kids, the elderly, etc) should definitely get flu shots, but they're generally not very useful overall.

What would be useful in terms of flu prevention is staying the hell home if sick, and common sense precautions like covering your mouth with your elbow when coughing or sneezing and washing hands frequently.

I'd LOVE it if we could adopt the East Asian practice of wearing face masks in public.

Regarding wearinf face masks in public, we saw a few here and I laughed so hard at them. What a bunch of antisocial, if you sick, stay home, dont wear face masks and then go out.
