Nothing against the AR, but I like a handgun better for defense.

well, in a way, i agree that one should own At Least one AR.
resell value.
it wasn't too long ago that a $500 AR was worth $1000.
that type of return beats all but the best stocks on the Dow.
however...
an AK will serve MOST people better since they are a no-brainer.
zero maintenance. goes bang every time. AR's have a history
of not handling continued neglect.

M 16 was the same way. A little dirt and it would misfire.

That may be true, but I've had an AK pointed at me in anger by a communist in a jungle, so, no.
