The numbers might add up but the numbers given may not be the truth.
Anybody can claim 16,000 in Medical deductions or 10,000 in charitable deductions and the amount will dutifully be deducted from the owed amount by the accountant. That's his job. Run the numbers.
The question really is about determining the veracity of the numbers given to the accountant.
How is he going to know. Pelosi does not have audit powers.

OK ... so it’s like the Mueller “Investigation”. ... no crime, because he is audited every year with NO charges of Tax evasion & the Leftist just want to know what Tax rate that he pays legally. We already know the Privatly owned Trump Company is primarily Real Estate. He has filed all the Financial statements required by law.
I have no objections to seeing what the sources of income and Tax rates that Politions pay ... Congress should pass a Law that Tax Retirns must be Public for ALL THE CongresCritters ... problem solved.

Obviously, there is no precedent for Congress Critters to do so as there is with POTUS. Not going to hold my breath waiting for Congress to make a law requiring them to do so.
The real issue is Trump repeatedly committed to releasing his returns and did so for political gain. Trump alone controls the release of his personal returns.

I agree that he made a political mistake by saying he would release them. I doubt he ever had any intention to. Honestly I doubt he thought he would win. However, at no point was there ever anything to gain from him releasing his taxes. He should have stuck to his guns and said hes in good standing with the IRS and thats all you need to know.

Trump got a tax refund last year. He didn't pay nothing. He didn't make anything. Gave his salary back to the people.
