Emission standards are being relaxed. Trump won't alienate the Saudis. Gasoline is under two bucks a gallon. SUVs are replacing the sedan.

Are the richest of the rich trying to kill the electric car?

No. History is delaying its viability, that's all.
Rich people are not in charge of the world, and do not pre-write history.

No they are trying to keep cars economically available for the poor. When Europe outlaws gas and diesel in 2040, the poor will lose their transportation. Should do wonders for their economy.

No, Governments on just about every level are putting in mandates for electric cars. The market (people's wants and needs), not government should be the ultimate decider.

Yes, rich people and their $70k+ Teslas are trying to kill electric.

I like how you assume the only reason people buy electric, is due to the price of gas.

If you are the type to do so, guess you do not really care about the environmentalism of it anyway.

When electric cars become more affordable and battery issues are mostly solved, thats when we will go electric. The market will do it on its own.

Just bought a Plug-in electric hybrid (PhEV) that was just as economical as a gas equivalent. And if you drive very little, you really would never need to touch gas.

Too bad more manufacturers are not thinking in this direction.

Batteries are mostly there already. It's the infrastructure to support ev charging that is lagging a bit. But it is catching up fast.

Quick charging technology has brought down charging times significantly, and some of the charging solutions just in the horizon will bring times close to the time it takes to refuel gasoline.

At this point I see no benefit to EV's and a lot of negatives. They only benefit is torque, and quietness. They are also more expensive than comparable ICE cars. If range greatly improves, and charging times can be brought into line with gasoline, it might make sense.

Tesla drivetrains are designed to go for a million miles. Electric vehicles have vastly fewer moving parts, and electricity is much cheaper then gas. Also better control of the wheels in traction situations, and so much more.

The newest Tesla coming is their sports car....with a 600 mile range.

There are a ton of benefits. You should look closer.
